I seem to remember a while ago there being a discussion regarding the capability to delete clips on the camera.

If I remember correctly it was suggested that a 'delete last clip' feature would be available but it would not be possible to delete anything shot prior to the last clip because of fragmentation considerations.

Is there any news as to when, if ever, this feature will be enabled ?

Not enabled, Geoff. It is still on the list, but not as a high priority.

good to know that it is still on the list...i would most definitely appreciate it.

I hope it's never added! It's a nice bit of security to know that some camera op can't delete the last take

I completely agree with you Shawn, its something that has been put lower on the list for that reason. The argument is that people can still format a card anyways on camera, but I still am a little nervous of people going in and doing something regretful.

Delete last take can also be psychologically damaging to fragile actors if announced loudly by the director. :)

Slap on hand - BAAD director (and not in a good way!) :clown2:

a two steps (confirmation) last clip delete would be nice though...

Better to delete a take right away on the set if you're sure you're not going to use it. Otherwise they end up on your hard disk and you have to go through them and try to remember why it was bad and then delete them anyway. And for anybody working just with CF it would be a welcome addition and time safer.

Actors might be happy that the last take they screwed up got safely deleted and won't end up on the internet :)

I would LOVE a delete last clip setting.

Is there now a setting that allows us to "mark a good clip"?

Delete last clip would be useful in some situations, like after accidentaly pressing record button:clown2:
I often make dozens if not hundreds of takes, most of which are junk - this is what you get when filming wildlife most of the time :ranting2: If there is plenty of storage, marking clip with NG would be fine. However, if I am recording to CF, I would certainly use delete clip function more often than not

Wildlife and documentary are the applications that come to mind as having most benefit. Hence its on the list, but it also needs to come with some high level of protection against accidental use.

Stuart,

I think a simple 2 or 3 steps delete would be very safe.
But it IS a must IMHO and should be adressed ASAP.

thanks

IS there a way to delete any clips at all, not just the last? I dont think its a great method that I would practice but I am working with a client who is asking me if this is possible. Film days they did not have this option, but you never know when your in a jam and need that extra space.
best

I dont think you should ever delete anything. you'd be surprised how a small part of a reaction can save your behind in editing from a disgarded take

I agree...so I take it there is currently no deleting of any one clip from a mag on camera (besides formating)? I understand why this feature is a low priority to enable.

Sounds like this is a tricky option; some - me included - would really like this option. Others, for valid reasons, don't.

Maybe there should be a password protected menu, so that only the owner/rental house has access to enabling such a feature.

From what I understand, there has been a source of trouble when people changed the frame-rate in the wrong way. Maybe this could also be an option controlled via that special menu?

In camera clip marking.
Supported by Redcine for quick filtering and cleaning up recording media.
