Just curious....

When my project base is 23.976, the standard options for the off-speed frame rates are a curious mixed bag of odd numbers. Some, like 59.94, make sense and others seem like odd fractions.

So:

1) any rhyme or reason to those numbers? Are they advantageous in any way (particularly with regard to flicker?)

2) is there any harm in reprogramming them to be integers / round numbers (100fps, 120fps etc)?

If i remember right... Those are NTSC and PAL standards, wich where 30 and 60 fields per second (in black and white image) and those fields lees where used to send the color information.

So, in this digital era i think it shouldn't be a problem shooting 24fps instead of 23.976

But it's importante shoot in frame rates relative to your project frame rate. AKA, 24Fps standard motion, 48 fps 2x slow motion, etc...

In regards of flickering, i think that 23.97 vs 24 shouldn't make any differece
