I am loving the new deep workflows in Nuke 8, Maya 2014 and MaxwellRender 3.
All the software is out and not beta, I think it will be a big game changer:
1) integrates all 3d work into a single frame file (exr 2.0)
2) allows quick merges of r3d (camera solved with mesh) to exr
3) the entire food chain is now exr 2.0, so everything is now working together without a lot of hacks
4) I am testing dropping most of my roto's, this saves a ton of time.
From a 4k perspective, this puts a lot of work back into the machine and not with a lot of manipulation. (i.e. i think you'd be crazy if your doing a 4k film and not do a deep workflow)
I am just learning deep, the ability to mix practical effects and vfx is probably my next thing I'm going to be tested. Man the people doing this software are amazing, really impressed by this … is something I've been waiting a few years for.
Not sure if anyone else is interested (I personally think everyone needs to understand deep workflows, but I'm a fanatic), would like to learn from what others are doing with deep data … and since I have rights to all the workflows of my film, I wouldn't mind outputting examples if the community would find that useful. I btw also really love the normal workflows of nuke 8, maya 2014 and maxwellrender 3 … they are so much easier to use then the old days, so is a good time to learn those packages. Nuke 8 now has a AE type compositing feel, with it's normal node workflow … while maya 2014 just integrates everything really clean. My next thing I'll be testing is getting a more complete camera solve from syntheyes integrated into my deep workflow, this is just really fun stuff
(btw monochrome r3d is now integrated into nuke 8, i haven't seen this announced on the boards, so a lot of good RED news in this)
