  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

small typographical clarification request :)
ff1080 is meaning full sensor 1080...

I think the ff1080 is confusing some folks. Perhaps Full Sensor 1080 :)

meaning (if I am not mistaken) 2/3" scarlet will use the whole 2/3" sensor to shoot 1080. S35 uses the full sensor, etc, etc, etc.

Later,
Jason

There are many factors that impact frame rates. In the case of 1080P, the additional processing for sampling, scaling and compressing the RGB limits the frame rates.

Not to mention that 3xRGB 1080P needs more data then 1xBayer 3K...

sure... it works like this: sell your Mysterium X brain and use the money to buy a Monstro brain.
Why assume that? Why wouldn't we be able to trade out Mysterium-X sensors for Monstro in any of the "brains" the same as we can in the Red One?

Sure, like the sensor trade in R1, it's "only" going to get you more dynamic range -- not more resolution or framerates. But if it's a similar price to the R1 Mysterium-X upgrade, I'd take my Epic-X and do that happily.

I would like to thank and congratulate all the Red team members for these new updates, I can't imagine how difficult it is to keep perfecting these cameras and the hard work/dedication that goes into it. Thank You!

Now, about that magical script-writing Unicorn that comes with every Scarlet... :)

Does anyone know how the "burst" mode work?
In the case of Scarlet S35, you get 72fps burst at 5K.

Thanks

Burst is probably a factor of how hot the electronics get before the burst has to end. Once you start bursting, I can't imagine why you'd have to stop, short of the electronics are getting too hot. But that's just my guess.

As fast as possible burst shooting for stills.
Machine gun mode for stills...

Oh, and I was thinking that the FF1080p mode will improve S/N and effective ISO, possibly better than if done in post. This is a great great option.

Steve - I am a magical script-writing unicorn!

ummm feedback......

The R1 sensor upgrade for $4.5K looks about right. Thanks for the option.

The Epic X looks like Jim is selling us (with freebies) a camera nobody wants.

How do we move from the S35 Epic to the FF35 Epic (a camera everybody wants)?

Or is Jim saying.....'you spent about $35K to go from nothing (exisiting old cameras) to the all singing/dancing RedOne and you're gonna pay that amount again to get the additional 3+ stops/ 4Kchroma rez etc.

The issue that won't go away is this Epic upgrade path.

Unless i missed something?

ever cheerful/happy,
Dave

ps: i don't think it's a matter of we're got the technology, lets cut it up with the marketing knife. the thing that really separates Red from it's competitors is the leaps in value/technology it was able to do. I'd hate to see the sun setting on this.

You serious? What exactly are you saying so I can respond very clearly?

Jim

ALERT! Jim.......it appears that if you use Mozilla Firefox Browser you CAN NOT see the BIG jpg you just posted. At least I think this is true.

Clarification on EPIC X vs. EPIC S35...

EPIC X lists a "Mysterium X Select" sensor and it has REDCODE 250. The EPIC S35 is just "Mysterium X" and REDCODE 225. What is the actual difference between the two brains?

What is the Select?

If there seems to be a more immediate demand for the FF35 Scarlet over the S35 Scarlet (given that the FF35 is more versatile than the S35 Scarlet for a relatively near price difference) could the release order be switched so that the FF35 Scarlet comes out first?

Interested to learn/understand a bit about the rationale for the order of roll outs?

Cheers,

Eric

First off, the offerings I see look great. I cannot wait for these tools! The things we will be able to create with these cinema tools will be transformative - truly. This is such a great tipping point for the world. We have a great responsibility to use these wonderful tools toward crafting stories that will uplift us and bring about that better side within each of us. :)

Also, this is a little silly, but I love that shot of the EpicX and the gray side, -- it looks gray; I love the black & gray combination and then those red colored power lights!!!! -- it's beautiful.....

Go Jim and the RED HEAD RANCHERS!!!

Very good Jason... the FF1080 is a full sensor scale to 1080, instead of using row-skipping or windowing.
