1. Keep your RED ONE and shoot great images. Get continual free firmware upgrades.

Do you think firmware upgrades will eventually cost? Seems like it for Red Own owners who upgrade.

I doubt it. I think he's pointing out one more time their commitment to the original camera development.

Breakfast news for me - UK time is 8 hours ahead of PST, I think...

Was it that 16(48) bit color equals the color nuances found in film? :)

I have tried to scan my old negatives at 16 bit, but cannot see any difference beyond 14 bits for 5254. Old, for sure, but still...

Jim and RED folks:

Thank you

thank you

and thank you.

My wildest dreams fulfilled. You have given us another window that seals the RED ONE's value, and we can do whatever we want with that. Obsolescence is officially obsolete, and RED can sell more RED ONEs than ever before EPIC ships. Everybody happy....

What a company.

All these are fantastic, but Jim said "Big change". I think there' s lots more to come.
F5, F5...

For me also, although it's tempting to stay up and catch the announcements live, especially since I'm not looking forward to sorting through 150 pages of 'we love you Jim' posts tomorrow morning.
Enjoy the fun guy's & gals.

So if I understand this correctly and the upgrade path exists for the lifetime of a Red One (that isn't x'd out)...

... this change protects the original investment if a Red One owner ultimately opts to try to sell their R1 to get a Scarlett FF35 if they can find a buyer who wants an Epic SS35 because this buyer gets all the extra modules and Limited Edition X for the price of an Epic SS35 brain.

Have a shoot here in 2 hours. Just a studio talking head. Then it will be time to check the forums....

Just to confirm:

Owners of resold RED ONEs will be eligible for the Epic-X deal in line with the original serial number of the resold camera, correct?
