I'm sad to say I'm disappointed. Not with the announcement, but the way it was all dealt with.

Intelligent questions were ignored and somehow silly comments deserved attention instead of silence.

Things are getting way too personal here.

You know what Jose.. your absolutely right and I cant agree with you more.

Any more noise in this thread is just going to be deleted as it appears. A good 75% of this thread has all been noise...

There actually really is a RED ATV.. its in the front lobby of our HQ :)

Badass! Haven't been down in a while. I'll have to change that very soon! :-)

Time to fire it up!

Geeez... It's like brand new. Go put some mud on that thing! :) I'd offer to help, but I'm about 1400 miles away at the moment.

That's a bit harsh tom. I think there was a bit of confusion due to the somewhat haphazrd presentation the the information.

With red youy never know. Maybe there would be an upgrade plan. After all everything is subject to change.

Its too bad you can't get the free accessories and take a rain check and wait 6 months to get the monstro. Its nmodular so they would be the exact same deal but encourage a higher cost brain purchase with the credit. That makes sense to me.

I also don't see jim taking his toys and going home. He's a big boy and doesn't need a body guard to keep him happy and generous. ;)

oh yes, i am so glad that their will be a complete scarlet kit for less then $4,000:biggrin:
now i am really excited since i know that it is possible that i will be able to afford one of these awesome cameras.

How's Jim doing?

When I think of what could be produced using even the lowest level model of Scarlet, I pretty much have to pinch myself. That S35 Scarlet hits the sweet spot for me. The lower compression is a huge boost there, as well as the 35mm frame (and the plethora of stills lenses I could use on it) and the ability to use the 5K RAW to generate 4K DCP and 2K DCP as well as 1080p.

I like the on-the-fly full sensor 1080P option for quick projects (basic corporate work and also behind the scenes stuff) as it can go straight to the edit bay with no intermediate steps.

I am seriously hanging out for further details on the modules and accessories. I'm very keen to put together a guide budget for a full rig or two. I don't suppose we can expect some other tidbits of information tonight/today? (realise I'm probably asking for the moon on a stick at this early stage - I hppe it doesn't come across as unappreciative of the excellent efforts you have all clearly been putting it).

When I imagine what I'll be able to produce with the S35 Scarlet... Drool happens!

Jim, is this the RED Ban Ball(TM)(R)(C)?

Good thing I like the announcement... wouldn't want to get hit with this thing...

While we wait. Just ignore the deathstar. :)

Where can I learn about the capabilities of the different versions of REDCODE?

The best way to understand the REDCODE versions is with the full camera systems. It'll make a ton of sense once you see it in cameras and can test it. Explaining it now would lead to more confusion as there are many variables that will be tweaked and tuned over and over again till the release date.

In Firefox I get this message if I use your link.

"The image “http://www.redgrabs.com/up/1228299243.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors."

However, I already used IE to get it earlier......but what about others.

I think the "it" that contains errors refers to Firefox, Opera has no problems with the image. Safari will also displays it without complaint, but does a lame attempt to scale it down to fit the window...

I don't think it's too harsh at all. In fact, I hope and pray that Jim never offers another free thing or "upgrade path" ever again, because it's corrupting the culture here and spurring this disgraceful behavior, in spite of Jim honorable intentions. You give an inch, they take a mile.

I have piles of old electronics and cameras all over my house. Not a single one of them is upgradeable. Not a single one can be redeemed for its full value toward a newer model.

Jim should have offered the $5K chip upgrade, the $17K trade in, and a ticket to get in line early for the first new units, and left it at that. Anyone who bitched should have been shown the door.

I'm on Firefox 3.0.4 and have had no issues. Just in case that helps OP find the problem.
