  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

$3750.00 is a nice price for the kit! I would like to see a render of this 2/3 8X Fixed Zoom Scarlet.

I want to see if the "Select" in the Mysterium-X chip in the Epic-X has added dynamic range.

I'll admit, the deal looks terrific economically. . . $10,000 more for a killer new camera. But those of us looking for higher dynamic range will still crave the Epic FF35. In truth, I'd rather have a MONSTRO in S35, but that's apparently not in the cards.

There doesn't seem to be any dnr/bit depth specs on the new brochure. Or am I missing it? I guess they're the same as before?

Yes Sir.

FF1080P is Full Frame 1080p 1 - 30 fps variable frame rate. so includes 23.98, 25.00, 29.97 fps

Ok, that's exactly my ABSOLUTE perfect camera for $3,750 BUT...

Stupid questions I have to ask:

- So that means a 2/3" Scarlet has a full frame sensor inside which is only used when you switch to FF1080P?

- And I supose that means you have to change the zoom to a full frame lens when you want to shoot full frame...

Am I correct?

unfortunately not.. unless w/ more whining.. ehehehehehe

For the record, adding some features (or putting back features you had and then removed) doesn't count as "everything changing," nor does it render the Nov. 13 announcements "insignificant." If anything, it's made Nov. 13, and the DSMC system, MORE significant.

Don't get me wrong, love the new features, and as a RED One owner I love the Epic-X offer. I just think that Jim overstated the case a wee bit on this one. Probably could have just dropped the new features on us when you had them, rather than building them up for a week and a half.

That said, I'll totally be getting an Epic-X, and at LEAST one fixed-lens Scarlet kit. Glad to see that back and still in the HVX-killer range.

It's the content of this post by Jim that makes Nov.13 seem insignificant. Moving all of this capacity in house is a major undertaking but represents a massive increase in capacity for Red.

Interesting. On the spec sheet's pick your brain page, the render for the 8x zoom scarlet doesnt have a monitor port. Could this mean that there will be a built in viewfinder/monitor for the this model?

And it worries me how there are no zoom/focus/aperture rings on its lens.

Also, the accessory page says Pro Cinema I/O Module. Does this mean its designed to work with the Pro Cinema models?

Lastly, when do pre-orders start?

No offense, Jim, and I'm not trying to tell you how to run your business, but I think this is the kind of announcement we were all expecting on November 13 in terms of features/price ratio.

BUT...

I can't imagine ANYBODY is disappointed with what you've shown us tonight. Honestly.

Adding full frame 1080P capture is HUGE! Thanks so much for listening!

Question though: is it RGB capture?

FF 1080P means 1080P from full frame... scaled not cropped.

Jim

I thought Red wouldn't scale - or is that only scale "up"? Scaling down is ok?

EDIT: I guess this means reading only the 1080 footprint of the sensor instead of the entire thing (which would be windowing). So... you could call this selective reading of the sensor which means less pixels are read - wouldn't that increase the speed, ie. the FPS?

I guess, technically, you're always dumping the value from every pixel, you're just selectively writing just the 1080 window to the RAW file so you don't end up with black borders... so in that case since there's the extra processing of discarding the black pixel values, it could lower the FPS capability.

no it means scarlet will scale the full 2/3 scale 16:9 sensor down to 1080p in camera so you won't have to do it in post

Stephen... you are beginning to get piss me off. There are major features shot on Mysterium RED ONEs. And you are disappointed with Mysterium-X which has more DNR and higher frame rates than a RED ONE? What are you shooting? What camera do you have now? What are your other options?

Just curious...

Fulle Frame in this context simply refers to the entire sensor. So it's just a 16:9 1080p scaled image from the entire 2/3" sensor. No cropping/windowed. You use the same glass...

So does that mean there's a variation on Redcode Raw that's storing RGB rather than bayer?

-Stu

my question too. also, what is Quad HD?

AND: to everyone asking for a monstro S35 -- get the FF35 camera and shoot windowed 4k. I'm guessing that window is the size of a S35 chip. bing bang bong.
