Hey guys, not sure if anyone has caught "DEAR WHITE PEOPLE" on Netflix, but it's one of the best looking shows on TV right now.

Not only is the show great, and the writing amazing, it just looks....superb.

I was quietly pleased to find out it was shot on Weapon (in 5K, sometimes 6K).

Here's the trailer, which gives you just a glimpse of how luscious this show looks:

You can find out more about DP Jeffrey Waldron's approach here, on NoFilm school:

He shot on Master Primes and Optimo's.

Love to know what diffusion he used - looks fantastic.

It's rare these days to find a show this good across all departments - writing, acting, camera, set design, etc.

But this one...wow.

First show my wife and I have binge watched in over two years.

If you shoot on RED, you may find this show deeply inspiring. I know I did.

Great content, that looks amazing...that's the dream, yes?

I was going to post about this too, but I didn't want the convo to turn into a debate about the title.

The cinematography is so good!

I think Dragon produces brown skin tones much better than lighter skin and it's evident in this series. The slight reddish/brownish hue from Dragon can look a little off w/o adjustments, on lighter skin, but it works on the various shades of brown. The colors pop really well.

I tweeted Jeff a few days ago to ask about OLPFs and he said:
"While I've swapped OLPFs on the Dragon in the past, for DWP we used the new 'Standard' OLPF on the Weapon -- super impressed with it!"

And yes, I think the series is good too.

Cool! Id love to find out diffusion he uses!!

Looked great!

Looks fantastic. If I were to guess his diffusions, I'd say a lot of it was full and half grids. Very creamy and soft

I think they're wondering about lens diffusion filters a la HBM/Glimmer Glass/Pro Mist etc...
But yeah I agree it's a great looking show. Great looking, but not overly stylized where it draws attention to itself and takes away from the story/characters. Netflix seems to be doing great things with Reds these days, between DWP and Stranger Things, i don't see how people can make the "bad color/skintones" argument anymore.

He answered the filter question a few days ago on Twitter too:
"Yep -- used 1/8th Hollywood Black Magic for the interiors -- super subtle but rounded off a bit of the RED/Master Primes super-sharpness!"

I started googling this again today, after asking that question to him months ago... I never got a notification from twitter and he literally answered my OWN tweet to him... *SMH*...
