I don't know why Deanan left but I hope he still has time to consider staying with RED.

Id like to hear that Deanan is returning and that this was a momentary blip.

So this is my "come back to this community" plea.

It's already not the same without you.

I hope I'm not the only one interested in seeing this happen.

+1. Can't remember how many times Deanan gave us the answer 20 posters and 400 viewers were looking for, or suggested something brilliant... but I totally understand the need for a change

I can't edit the post title but it's not up to me to decide if RED needs Deanan, that's up to RED and it's just my own opinion. I'm not taking anything away from any of the Red team.

Man . . . I leave for a couple weeks and all hell breaks loose. Was there an official announcement? Where did he go? Next to Graeme he seemed to be the guy who knows where all the code bodies are buried.

I will miss what Deanan brought to all of us at RED.... but everything happens for a reason and we need to give D a little space I think.....

"Everything is subject to change..." as the song goes.....

:)

With no more Deanan I have just one question...

Who at RED can I now email, and expect a response from, at 11:30PM on a Saturday night???

Nice BTS but what does it have to do with Deanan other then he was in it? Anyone know where he's working now?

Of course no one here can speak for Deanan, but Jim did say he was no longer happy working at RED. That doesn't necessarily mean he's working somewhere else - maybe he's just chillin'

At the end of that BTS video, Soderbergh talks about editing films on a macro level, how the speed of digital workflow opened up for him the possibility/luxury of taking the time to step back and reexamine the whole film rather than trying to perfect a series of individual scenes by a tight deadline. Maybe Deanan saw that there were things in his life that needed some filling out, and realized that the chemistry between him and the RED world was not going to allow him the space to complete his life on a macro level.

People who post here and expect him to always be there for YOU 24/7 are a part of the RED world. Personally, I don't know him, but I saw enough in that video and here on REDUser to see he's a person for whom I can only wish happiness. He's been driving himself real hard for (I would guess) at least 20 years.

Give him a break and wish him well. Sometime in the next 20 years I'm sure most of you will need the same kind of break.

@Steve: I never expect any employee to have an unbalanced life or be there for a customer 24/7 so not sure what you are suggesting by me or others "giving him a break". Your post is a bit preachy for someone who has no basis in fact or experience with Deanan or myself.
