Seriously, 9 nominations and no wins. Does the Academy have no shame?

Yeah, 9 noms and no wins kinda blows, but Wally deserved that one. No question about it.

I actually thought that True Grit was one of the more mediocre Coen Bros films (of course it was still good, but certainly no Oh Brother, Fargo, or No Country) and didn't particularly deserve to win any category, except maybe supporting actress. Deakins' cinematography was great of course, but was much more conventional than many of the other nominees. The cinematography of Inception, Social Network, and King's Speech were simply stunning.

To be nine times nominated is an achiviment of its`s own... I really tought that they where going to give the oscar to hin just because of that, but I don`t think he would like to get an oscar he didn`t fell he deservead, just because he was so many times nominated... That said I think that Inception and Social Network had great cinematography but I think the king`s Speech looked a lot like something Philip Bloom shot....

Agree 100%.
I thought Deakins was going to win as a sort of "consolation prize" for being nominated 9 times, but Inception's cinematography, IMHO, was superior to all the other nominees. If I had to pick a runner-up, it would be Black Swan, but I know that's a matter of taste :-) Besides, Libatique won the Independent Spirit Award for cinematography two days ago (and Black Swan won also best film and best directing), so I'd say it's fair.

Social Network 'stunning photography'? Like Inception, Kings Speech or True Grit.

REALLY?

I must get my glasses checked...

Mob rules... A collective knows no shame and can not be held accountable.

Maybe Deakins will be one of those Titans who's first award is the Lifetime Acheivement, or maybe one day sooner the stars will align for him. We all know he is deserving, I think.

Personally can't believe that Tron was so snubbed. I find it laughable that Hereafter got nominated special effects and Tron didn't.

Deakins didn't deserve to win, and didn't win. He's one of the best cinematographers working today but the other films in the category were superior in one way or another (apart from Kings Speech).

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how "Bright Star" didn't get nominated for best cinematography that year. Talk about a ludicrous snub. . . that film was insanely beautifully shot. . . so much so that I found it impossible for me to actually watch the movie!

Bright Star was beautifully done. Tarsem Singh's 'The Fall' was ludicrously beautiful so much so that you were in awe of the visual aesthetic more than the story, which was actually not that bad - it was just overpowered by the visual. The girl was fantastic.

Haha what do you mean? There wasn't a rack focus between Colin Firth's eyes and the tip of his nose...

I thought the biggest snub was no nomination from Fair Game...I thought both Sean Penn and Naomi Watts deserved a nomination. That film just wasn't distributed well enough, maybe because the theaters felt like audiences had had enough of Bush administration-bashing.

As much as I love deakins, I was hoping he wouldnt win. I'm not a fan of handing out an Oscar as a a consolation prize. He has been nominated 9 times before, but he shouldn't have won for true grit. And what was up with that terrible green-screen looking footage of them running on the horse at the end?
