I kinda need to rant.

So, I have this neighbor - single mom and three kids in their teens, all nice people. But, for the third time in a few short years their dog has been run over and killed (three different dogs, obviously). It appears the last one a few days ago really hit hard on the emotions, and the family hasn't been around since. One was blaming the other and so on. And no, the dogs were not on a leash.
There is a park across the street and every morning all the neighbors, including this one, open their doors and let the dogs out to crap. We seem to be the only ones with our dog on a leash, and who do not let her crap in the park (the one I garden in and the same one where the neighbor's kids are encouraged to wreak terror on said garden. Unsupervised. Undisciplined. Un everything. Maybe that's why two have broken their arms on the toys? Course not, must have been a fault in the toy design). So, they let the dog out to crap a few mornings ago - as they have always done for the 6 months they've had the dog/puppy, and boom. Did the driver stop? Of course not.

Will this family get a fourth dog and repeat the scenario all over again? We've tried to foment local responsible pet care, but that's like telling someone to rein in their spawn. Deaf ears and arrogance. We're the bad guys.

In this same park there is a teen punk with a pit bull, off the leash 90% of the time. It barks and snarls and spits every time it passes my house and sees my Husky, Kami, - the only educated dog on the block. Well, it finally came to pass; I was walking Kami in the park, and the Pìt saw her and attacked. No questions asked, just attacked. Kami beat the livin' snot out of that dog in just a few quick seconds, while on a leash and while I tried to pull her off. The 'ol 'I'll kick your ass with one hand tied behind my back' take-down. It was an unfortunate but proud moment. Course the Pit owner gave me the indignant 'You won't be so lucky next time' glare as he patched up the pieces. Jerk off.

The next morning a familiar neighbor called Kami 'The Champ' without having even seen the scrap. This isn't the first time - or last, I fear - Kami has been attacked by off-the-leash dogs. She wins every time. Fast, smooth, then back to the tree-sniffing task at hand.

Okay, enough about that. No amount of dead and pummeled dogs is going to change the ignorance. Not ever. Where you have stupid and/or irresponsible humans, you have stupid and/or irresponsible dogs. No surprise there.

My other rant: Call me cunt, but never call me baby

Over the holidays we had a couple stay as guests. They are 50+/60+, and every day they smother each other with baby this and baby that. Ahh, I was ready to move to a hotel. It is my most hated word. I'll take cunt over baby any day.
When editing or consulting on scripts where I find 'baby' used - almost always over-used - I try to politely tell the author to nix it. It doesn't sound sincere, etc. It dang near ruined the film 'Inside Man' for me. And I'm quite sure editing it out of a produced screenplay cost me credits - as in film made, 'baby' back in and no mention of Alex. Lol. After seeing the film I was thankful.

Gag.

Does anyone really still use it? After the holidays, I guess so.

I once worked on a screenplay where I suggested the word Dude could fix the cadence of some dialogue, and I was soundly advised 'You will never find 'Dude' in any one of my screenplays'. Okay, got it. And I can say with confidence you will never see 'baby' in any one of mine - unless some clown puts it in there in a rewrite. Not by my pen, though. Not ever.

I need coffee.

Maybe the dogs throw themselves under a car.

Maybe it's the same dog spirit but it's stuck in a loop.

I suggest reconsidering the alternative naming. Allergy to the term is likely related to "Déformation professionnelle".

Have some freshly squeezed juice instead.
