DDR5 and a new box

I've been reading about DDR5 coming and with that, new components, motherboards, and CPUs. I was looking at possibly upgrading my system this summer, but should I wait for that DDR5 goodness?

Personally I'm waiting for the new AMD processors. For my needs, fast RAM isn't relevant, but if DDR5 is only a few months away, then you should wait for sure.

The main advantage of DDR5 is that it uses less power with the same frequency compared to previous DDR standards(important for mobile and serverparks).
First gen DDR5 won't be faster than current DDR4.
Second gen DDR5 will have higher clocks but also higher CAS-latencies.
Current gen HEDT(AMD and Intel) is not limited by memory bandwidth for content creation and DDR4 is cheap these days(and expectations are the prices will go down futher in the comming months).

When you do a lot of calculations with the GPU(Davinci Resolve effects and TNR) the memory bandwidth and size, of the GPU(GDDR6 or HBM2 these days) can be a limiting factor.
An other factor might be how fast NVidia's+RED GPU decoding is coming to your prefered Post Production Software and if that outweighs other solutions (relatively cheap CPU+GPU).

When you're not in a hury I would wait what Computex 2019(28 may..1 june) brings.

Buy what you need and are willing to spend(can afford) when you need it.
Technology is going so fast these days that overspending for future proving is useless (current technology write off is about 3 years).

That makes sense. I'll probably just end up waiting to get a cheaper price on the old hardware.
