FinalDCP (500 Euros) took 14 hours to render a 90min 2k dcp movie from a 4k prores444 file on a 6core 3.33ghz mac with 24gb of ram , its node based so if you buy licences for other machines (200 euros) you can cut the time down. Final DCP is very simple to use. the end 2k files were about 160GB. the bigger problem was formatting the drive in a format that will work with all DCP servers. on windows xp/vista/7 acronis disk director does this very easily.
on a mac its insanely hard or impractical because the format needs to be ext2 or 3 with an inode value of 128 the changing of which isn't supported in any mac software I know. to read the format you can install macfuse with a plugin but this won't help formatting drives just reading/writing. paragon ext for mac works but has serious issues. it took 3 days to copy 160gb to the drive. there is a new version (9.0) in beta testing. don't know if this corrects the issues. I tried running some of these things through a windows virtual machine on mac which also did not work.
I believe final dcp are working on a player. it does conversions between colour spaces and aspect ratios. you can also see stills from the conversion. it does not support subtitles yet. easydcp costs thousands. works well but its insanely expensive. no product does everything you want. it would be nice if it handled formatting the drives too. sadly every dcp server is different but all of them support ext2/3 file systems but with the inode set correctly. the default inode size won't work most of the time and the drive want mount. you also need to used powered drives. bus powered drives won't work. if you have shorts a usb key is fine and should work with the right formatting. files need to be copied to the root of the drive or a single folder on the drive. there are 6 files in total that get created. a video file , an audio file and some xml type files
