Two separate shoots on greenscreen - one on daylight, one on tungsten. I am scratching my head because the daylight footage was very good, where as the tungsten footage was not only worse, but so noisy that I think something is wrong here. There can't be this much discrepancy between the two. We chose to go tungsten for certain reasons, mainly because we didn't have enought daylight to light what we needed. Is this much noise normal for Tungsten?

If you can share some R3D files with me, I can take a look and try to see what is going on.

Build doesn't matter if I can see the R3D... I can then look at the colors in the RAW, how they get converted, light levels, etc. etc.

love to hear feedback on this thread Graeme when you have some findings....I have seen stuff like this before and would love to know what's going on....

Well if it's an older build than 20, you know there's going to be more noise from a tungsten source than a daylight source. That's a big part of what the new color science fixes. According to me anyway... Also looks like a few notches above 320 ASA in addition to underexposed.

Can old Tungsten R3D benefit from the new build?

Hi G:

I shot some green screen tests with Tungsten earlier in the year. Is it possible to reprocess out the noise using a newer version of Red Alert? I downloaded the latest version of Red Alert and I didn't a huge difference yet. I only did a limited test in Shake.

This was one of the original ideas of Red. As software improves you should be able to go back and reprocess your "neg".

The forum didn't send me an email to say the thread was updated, so I'm only just seeing the links to the R3D now. I'll take a look and post back!

Ok, looking at the raw data, I can see that the tungsten lit green background (green at 116 on the 12bit scale) is about 3 stops underexposed compared to the daylight lit green background (824 on the 12bit scale). That is enough to account for what you're seeing.
