I'm looking to purchase lighting for an even wash on an L shaped cyclorama. The back wall will be 20' long and 15' high, with the righthand side measuring 12' long by 15' high. I'm hoping to do this with daylight balanced lights so we can work in more of our existing gear easily for lighting talent. Currently I'm looking at picking up a few Altman Spectra fixtures, but I'm curious to hear how other people have gone about this.

It seems like there aren't a ton of daylight balanced cyc lights, and the ones that exist are on the pricier side. We'd like to avoid tungsten for a number of reasons, but could potentially go that route as well. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I just went through this at my studio. Our issues were, if we go traditional space lights, they are tungsten and it's a zillion amps. If we go LED space lights, it costs a fortune. We went back and forth and ended up going with 4 bank dimmable kino fixtures. The price was right, and we can do half and half and switch off one or the other to be tungsten or daylight, or just relamp for more punch one way or the other. It helped that I had a hundred or so kino tubes left over from a movie. I think we got 12 4 bank fixtures. They were built for another show. Kino ballasts in aftermarket housings with baby pins mounted to them for rigging.

There are lots of options, that's just what we decided to do.

I'm using SkyPanels at our place, but honestly ,thats probably over kill. Its nice though. Clients can decide to chance to color temp, add a hue, use an effect, etc.

we use space lights...only drawback is tungsten. but its never been a deal killer.
We also have kinos, but 90% of the time the clients use the space lights...they do an amazing job on a cyc.

Thanks for all the input! It seems like Kinos may be a viable route. Does anyone have experience with Mole-Richardson's LED Spacelite?
