I know this is a place to post footage but i cant find a place to request footage so if this is the wrong place please let me know and i will delete it or a mod could maybe move it. Thanks

Anyway. I have a shoot coming up soon where there are shots set in a field where there is no artificial light. (eg streetlamps etc) The scenes are a fantasy/medieval time so other than maybe fire it should appear that the scene is moonlit.

Im trying to work out whats going to be best for budget whether to shoot at night or day for night.

If someone could post some day for night footage that was achieved using Red mx it would be great. Ive done some searching on the internet but most day for night footage seems to be on DV or some other sd medium.

Thanks

If you're shooting with the MX, I think you can shot at night without any problem.

I don't know if somebody have a day for night shot that can show you, but there are many shots at night with the MX. this one is from offhollywood:

Maybe you already saw it, but maybe not :)

For night work, you still need lighting for a rural field in the middle of nowhere that has to look moonlit. There's no streetlamps out there and even if there were, a story set in the Middle Ages couldn't use them.

Shooting at night with no lights isn't going to look like night. It's just going to look black with some flickers of light.
You need some type of light imitating how our eyes see the moon light.
