So i was watching an awesome kinda old film '30 Days Of Night' and instantly wanted to go shoot something moody/dark

but I was home alone, so I thought i'd mess with some old footage i shot, directed, edited for a lookbook piece not too long ago

I wanted to tweak the bright, autumn style shoot...too make it look like night, but not by just crushing the blacks
i still wanted the same amount of detail

all I have to say is i love, red/r3d files...so much fun

before and after below:

very impressive, how was the lighting set-up with overhead shot?

I only brought my portable datavision LED panels with me

had one behind me at the edge of the bed (screen left) up high to replicate light the window it was near
the other one was hidden in the bathroom, dimmed down a bit for a bit more fill

Sick results! Very impressed! The POWER of R3D !

You can also create very good, dramatically believable day-for-night images with good photography and great color-correction in post. The R3D has little or nothing to do with it.

The good thing with your day for night example, is that it is lit with low contrast.
Often that is what make day for night look terrible. High contrast and shadows...

Great!

I appreciate the kind words and glad people like it, thank you

def amazing what you can do inside redcinex and source settings in adobe
as just regular CC doesnt allow you to manipulate the footage the way i could in redcinex and adobe

def makes you realize how powerful raw is haha

hope everyone has a good xmas

about to install the new firmware now thanks to everyone at RED ;)

Remember to use your midtones or curves, the blacks will crush very easily so be careful.
Do as much as possible with the primaries then window off the brighter areas.
Not too blue, and I always try to ovoid keys when doing D4N.
Play and have fun

can you explain maybe a little of the process you went through changing it into night shots? it looks almost like you actually shot these at night.
