Anyone else has problems running DaVinci Resolve 10 on the Surface Pro? It used to run smoothly until I updated the graphics drivers for Photoshop to run without errors.. now it says I don't have OpenCL acceleration.. but the Surface Pro 2 does hae OpenCL..
I guess I have to pick between them?

Call me crazy, but I think it's unwise to try to run Resolve on a Tablet PC.

Its an i5 with 8gb ram.. should at least run.. it plays 6k red files smoothly.. even empties my redmags in under 8min.. its definitely a software issue.. it ran fine before my updates.. :(

I think tablets are good for some things, but I don't think it's a good idea for Resolve because of the lack of a calibrated monitor and the small size of the GUI. I don't see any tablets on Blackmagic's config list:

I think there are very big laptops with huge amounts of RAM and GPUs that can barely run Resolve, but even that is not ideal. I'm also not a fan of doing Photoshop on tablets or mixing sound on tablets, but that's me. I love tablets for surfing the web and getting email, and they also work for playing back content and reading eBooks.

I have powerful computers at home and a MacBook pro.. but I travel 3 hours a day in a packed tight train every morning.. my tablet fits perfectly in my squashed sitting space.. I do a lot of editing on it.. even composited a R3D on photoshop :)

Hi Jorge,

Have you ever been able to solve the issue of making Resolve work on the Surface Pro (1st gen)? I would like to get it running on the Surface Pro as well as I do a lot of travelling and would like to do quick grades on the go. I have Assimilate Scratch working on it (and it works great - mostly near real time ), but would like to get Resolve running as well.

Thanks in advance for any input you may have on this issue.

How would you calibrate the screen to reproduce Rec709 color? Are you aware that Resolve is not intended to use the GUI output for color, but instead only a separate color-managed output using a Blackmagic interface?

Hi Marc,

That's a good point and I understand that accurate reproduction of Rec709 color is essential. However I'm pretty sure I can calibrate the Surface Pro screen using the Datacolor Spyder line of calibrating devices. Is that not correct? Also, from what I have read, even professional monitors should be calibrated every 6 months, so the same device will be useful for my external monitor as well. The Surface Pro screen might not achieve absolute accuracy, but it should get pretty close.
