  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

David Fincher and RED

That's awesome, Michael. Congratulations on your great opportunity and thanks for sharing.

Yes, thanks for sharing. Another one for the Red book!

David Fincher also shared with me his thoughts about the future of 3D, here is my question and his answer.

Me: Can I ask one more question?

Fincher: As long as it doesn't inspire a boring answer like the last one.

Me: We're talking about industry standards, there's been a lot of talk in the industry lately about 3D, particularly with James Cameron's Avatar slated for release later this year. What are your thoughts on 3D in film?

Fincher: Well, Avatar's pretty cool... (long pause)... I'm sure in the wrong hands 3D will be just as irritating as it ever was. I think 3D is a really interesting way of making the Friday night, Saturday night, 3000 people in one room experiencing something at the same time more impressive, or more immersive, or more assaultive, you know, so in that perspective I think it will make the big movies, and the movies events more eventful than ever. I can't imagine making this movie currently in 3D... it would be kind of like... (he makes typing sound effects)... I'm not sure that added dimension would really help put it over the edge. I think 3D's great, and I thought 3D for Up was... that was insane, it just looked amazing, and I can't wait to see what they do with Finding Nemo, I mean that movie will just be amazing to see in 3D. But I also think that there are a lot of movies that you just don't have to see in 3D. So I'm an early fan, but maybe not an early adopter. I just can't come up with something that makes use of that 3D house-of-pancakes technique.

I have many more questions that were asked that I can share, I'm just not sure if this is the appropriate forum. These two were asked by me with REDuser.net readers in mind, while the others were just questions asked about him personally. If you all would like I could post an audio recording of the Q&A for you all to listen to.

Yes - pleaaaaaase!!! And thanks!!!

Michael,

thanks a lot and sorry I just came later on this tread.

here it's so refreshing after all those noise around RED1 "testing" and "comparing"... in the last days...

Once more thank you very much.

Looking forward to read your detail report later about this crucial RED event with David Fincher...

Yes, I'd be keen to hear an audio recording of the talk with David Fincher.

i'd also love to hear the recording.. did he say they were going to release Finding Nemo in 3d? can't seem to find anything about that.. but it would be awesome..

Audio Recording

I forgot about this thread... good idea with the bumping, I wouldn't have seen it otherwise!

Anyways, here's the recording. You're gonna have to max your volume when you listen to it, as it was recorded from a distance on an iPhone. I recommend headphones, as its tough to hear with just computer speakers (particularly the questions). Nevertheless, you can hear it if you listen closely.

The answers I posted in this thread already to my questions are the only tech questions you'll hear... nobody else really asked questions along that line, since this is a high school after all. Since the readers of this site aren't just gadget lovers, but rather lovers of gadgets that can help them express a story inside of them, I'm sure you'll enjoy an accomplished directors insights regarding the film industry and his latest movie, The Social Network.

Enjoy,

Michael

UPDATED: I can't get the recordings attached. My browser crashes half the time, and the other half I get the following message...

Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing. If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

Anyone know what I can do?
