I'm hoping someone has a solution to this problem (mainly so I don't have to do it manually).

I have dozens of external hardddrives that each have dozens of projects. I was hoping there was a program for OS X that could "remember" what was on each drive even after it has been disconnected from the computer.
I would like to hook up each drive to the computer and then it will memorize all the folder names and file names, etc...
Then if I need to pull up a project I can just look to see what drive it is on and pull it off the shelf/storage.

I wish I could export lists out of Disk Inventory X. I could take a screen capture but that just seems clunky and I wouldn't be able to search it.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the great solutions, everyone!
I tried all three. I liked CDFinder the best. It takes the longest to scan each disk and make the catalog. But in doing so it creates thumbnails of all the jpegs and videos which will definitely be helpful.
I had to do a bit of detective work to get theCataloguer to work. The text file was created under this directory: /Volume/Users/Shared/ It's a really simple solution.

yeah someone should write some documentation for theCataloguer. :-)
