hey guys,

i had a data trouble on a shooting four weeks ago with my red one mx + ssd. camera firmware is v31.6.16.
some of the files was´t readable or the red cine-x software gots crashed after the dit opened them.
they had a red cross on red cine-x over their thumb, but these files was playable on the camer itself before.

we never had trouble like this before with the camera...

so how could this happen?

some facts:
- the DIT was a production trainee... who has copied the ssd´s and he had also some connecting problems with his macbook and the FW800 drives.
he puts 2 fw800 drives with external power and the red station reader in a fw800 chain to his 13" macbook.
he also had opened the files from the red ssd first in red cine-x to play/check them, after this he copy the files to his drives. i think he does this check/copy files thing simultaneously? (my suspicion).
he had told me that sometimes his macbook lose the connection to the ssd´s and other fw drives without disconnecting them. (you know, these warning...).

So... after he see that some files gots corrupt (red cross over the thumb) he came over to us and said that the camera is brocken...
he brings us the ssd back and we put it in the camera-> the camera can´t read the files anymore and said there is an error with it.

hmm...

so i´ve changed his workflow a bit after this. told him that he please copy and backup the ssd´s first to the laptop & drives and after this he can have a look to the files.
so far it looks like this has worked! and we didn´t got corrupt files again on these day...
i mean... most dit´s use shot put pro or r3d data manager... which i really suggest to the most productions (i always suggest to have a good dit too...).

anyway! i also lost a bit of trust in the camera since this day! what takes me to shoot a bit more on alexa the past weeks...but actually we found time to check our r1 camera again with the same ssd´s and reader and we didn´t get trouble or corrupt files again. so i hope this really was only a workflow problem?
the red crashes sometimes, especially when we press a button twice like format or rec to fast after another...

soo, what should you guys think...?

best,

philip

so camera, reader & SSD´s been checked professional again... everything is okay with it...

my final question: redcine-x writes in the metadata of the red files, if this happens and the mac got a hard disconnect with the red ssd- this can result in corrupt files which aren´t readable in a computer or the camera again?
