This might be a silly question but, what is the data transfer rate (mb/s) of shooting in uncompressed RAW vs. compressed RAW and is there a noticeable difference. We are trying to figure out our work flow and file size is a huge factor. Thanks

Uncompressed RAW is ~323MB/s. You might potentially convert it to uncompressed 4K RGB, which is 3 times that size. This is for 24fps.

If recording higher framerates, it is higher.

4K at 24fps RAW - 4096 x 2304 x 24 x 12 / 8 / 1024 / 1024 = 324MB/s ..

After REDCODE RAW compression this is reduced to about 28MB/s (224Mb/s)

From the high speed data port, our maximum uncompressed data rate is -

4.5K at 60fps RAW - 4520 x 2540 x 60 x 12 / 8 / 1024 / 1024 = 986MB/s (7.888 Gb/s)

*Not sure what the final Redcode RAW data rate will be. But it will be reasonable.

2- To record uncompressed RAW, you need to satisfy certain conditions:
A- The camera has to have the RAW outport port installed (it is an option, not on every camera).
B- You have to record the signal onto something (not announced what will work).

3- Quality-wise, Redcode RAW compression is pretty much visually lossless. And there is pretty much no impact on chromakey (there were test images a while back). So the only compelling reason to go uncompressed RAW capture is for the higher frame rates.

There are different threads here about aspects of the Red workflow (e.g. archival) though the information is not necessarily gathered in one post. And some of it changes... e.g. it might change with the release of Redcine, and with 3rd party tools that might come along.
