  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I´m just testin my Thunderbolt 1 connection to my raid setup.

What is the data rate for 5K footage with the different compression ratios? Is there a chart for this?

AFAIK, native R3Ds are always under 300MB/s due to the write speed of the RedMags during capture, regardless of frame size or compression settings. Even TB1 should be plenty of bandwidth assuming your storage system is up to the job. Keep in mind that one of the things that RED committed to early on was making 4K+ capture viable on compact media via smart compression. The result of that approach is that the native R3D file sizes are impressively small considering the nominal resolution.

BTW, does anyone know what the actual max write speed is? The first couple of years it was under 50MB/s, IIRC correctly the 512 "Turbo" SSDs were supposed to get to 200MB/s, not sure about the new mini-mags but if they can exceed 300MB/s that's news to me.

Cheers - #19
