Data Management

I have been searching through the forums and have not really found what we are looking for. We need some sane data management software, which would allow us to catalog our footage. The software needs to be able to work with native RAW format and its file structure and directly work with embedded meta data.

Right now we have a spreadsheet, but it is getting out of hand. We need some visual representation (preferably video preview) of what we got, be able to sort it, find it etc.

Well, contact H. G. Daun (the author of Clipfinder) and find out if he can work something out for you.

Are you sure you need to actually catalog the RAW files themselves? If you simply catalog the proxies- identical timecode, length, etc then you can use anything off the shelf/QT compatible (assuming you're on a Mac). Like CatDV for example:

Otherwise you have Clipfinder, RED Alert!, REDCINE-X, etc.

Use the Clipfinder function called "Project Documentation" to export XSL readable by Safari. Excellent solution that can be placed on a web server with screen grabs, metadata and everything else. Very customizable and free!

CatDV seems to be gaining ground as a solid, affordable solution. I think some of the post houses have used a combination of off the shelf products and their own homebrewed coding to get exactly what they want.
