Hi everyone,

I've recently today upgraded to Scarlet_Build_v5.1.38. I then did a fresh blackshade.

I had just finished completing some lighting tests and then went to do a fan noise / temperature test.
I'm doing these tests as I have a long 45-60min interview coming up.

26mins into the test I get the message: "Data Integrity Error", and then the camera has to shut down.
When this happened there was no problem with sensor or core temperature over heating. Temperatures were at 40/65.

I'm doing another test now to see if it happens again.

Has anyone comes across this before or knows the cause?
Should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Phil

As an update I just did another 45min record.
This time no errors occurred.

To note:
When the original error happened, I was able to playback the clip when I turned the camera back on.

I think for the sake of the interview to protect what is being recorded I'll use 64gb cards.

i think this usually happens if the redmag is pulled out or has a bad connection during record or if the internal connections between the SSD module and camera is bad. Could just be dirt on the connectors on the redmag. Maybe give it some alcohol and reinsert it a couple of times to get some on the module connection as well

Will give this a go. Thanks!

Do you have experiences of this data integrity error problem solved with this, or is it assumption from you?

cheers,

I sent in the log file early this morning and sadly it is a lot worse than one would hope. Here is the report:

"It seems from the log that one of the boards has an issue that presents itself when the camera is hot. We wouldn’t recommend to shoot with it, and would really recommend to get this in to us…."

As this issue's outcome has come at a late stage in the day I have no choice but to take and use this camera tomorrow (Thursday). I would normally switch the camera but I have a very early call time.

I've been testing all day and the problem has not come up again. I'm going to keep the temperature as low as I can, I'm going to keep it between 55c-60c.

I'll keep this thread up to date to let you guys know how it goes and if the problem occurs again. I will be sending in my camera to RED first thing Friday Morning.

Hi Phil,

I had exactly the same problem, camera had the error after getting at about 43/60Deg. Try to get your job done by running the camera as cool as you can. I only had the last file segment damaged, so you might be able to use a part from the interview even if the error should reoccur. Good news is my camera had no issues after the boards being swapped by RED Europe, so you you probably will end up fine as well. Good luck!

Cheers, Ulf

Phil, you could always run it in manual mode and run the fans even faster in both Standby and Record modes if the Adaptive mode isn't keeping it cool enough. Will be louder of course, so not great if you're recording sound too.

Hi Ulf & Eric,

This is exactly what I did. Thursday's shoot went well with no problems. I ran the fans in manual to the point where both the sound guy and myself were happy. I kept it at about 55c with fans at 38%.
I also made sure that we would discreetly cut every 2-3 questions in to make sure there would be as little waste as possible if any errors did occur.

I took the Scarlet into Red Europe today and will find out exactly which board is creating this problem on Monday. I'll give an update then.

Thanks for your advice everyone!

For anyone in the future with this problem:
- Switch to manual fans and keep the temperature to around 54-56c.
- As we had both directional and lapel mics on set I was able to get a 38% fan speed without any pickup during this interview. (I have 2.0 top & bottom fans)

Thanks,

Phil
