  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Data Archival - Is LTO the way to go?

I saw some comments about tape media / stock brands and thought I'd chime in. There's two LTO tape cartridge types called "Barrium ferrite (BaFE)" and Metal Particle (MP). On LTO6 and below HP, IBM, Quantum, Fuji, and some others are in the BaFE group, and LTO7 ALL are BaFE. BaFE is considered better in scientific terms that're beyond my comprehension.

When speaking of the actual tape drives. All LTO7 drives are made by IBM now. HP dropped out of the game after LTO6. All LTO7 drives you see are actually just re-badged IBM drives.

I deal with thunderbolt, usb, sas, fc, standalone and tape libraries of many brands, so please contact me if you have any questions about purchasing an LTO system or just want to chat about them.

I can tell you that I had an extreme high density durable tape drive system I wanted to approach Sony with 10 years ago. Density far beyond what is currently out there. I was just going to tell you about the most sure easy reliable, higher density system that could he done now, that just flashed through my head. But I just stopped myself from spilling the beans. Makes tape super competitive to drives.

Time for investors?

Just transfered it over another step. Just another exciting application use came to mind. Now I remenber I was onto this years ago.
