  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dana Dolly Motion Control

Hey Robino,

Glad to see the updates in this thread and thanks for the photos. Can I ask about the mounting cheesepalte you attached to the Danadolly. I'm all set for motors and such, but I was curious about the housing you have there. That is the part I'd like to figure out.

Thanks again for sharing.

David

For the pulley / motor housing I used parts from Servo city. I used their channels and minion pulleys. Then used a 3/8 screw with wingnut to secure it to Dana Dolly. There are holes ready for it on the each side of the dolly.

To mount the pan unit I used a large cheese plate from Filmtools.

If we can be of any help, please let me know. If we can help other people that use the dolly, we're all about that. Thanks very much, Mike Hall mike@azgrip.com (we make the Dana Dolly)

Mike would you guys consider making your own motion control unit for the Dana?

Actually,

It would be cool to have the add on and all the parts needed and then you could just add your own motor. This way you coukd swap out motors for different types of jobs.

A kit with the belt, end holders and the pulley holder on the dolly would be awesome then you could just add a slower or faster motor or one for heavier rigs etc. I'd add something like that to my rig which already has pan, tilt, and focus. I want to be able to add very long track lengths and the variable belt comes in very handy.

One thing to consider would be to mount the belt horizontally instead of vertically. This might allow some flexibility to use belts and curved track. Also under slug mounting, etc.
