  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What are people using in order to stamp dailies with TC, filename and other meta data? I see that Compressor has a TC filter, but it'd be nice to also have the filename (which would have the Red mag and shot info) plus maybe TOD of the original R3D, etc.

I'm contemplating coding such a thing myself, but I'd hate to go do this just to find out there's already something that does this.

I usually do dailies with redrushes with burn-ins of reel and filename + TOD. redline and most redline based applications, like redrushes, clipfinder and r3d data manager can do that. Redcine can aswell.
You probably already knew but that's how I do it.

I use Redrushes with the burn in ticked works well but not all of the time other wise I use Redcine.

I am working on a feature at the moment and the editors are using Redrushes to export offline for Avid. But we have found that a large number of clips come out with skipped TC frames. By this I mean the burnt in TC will skip a few frames. We checked the clip in Redcine and it had no dropped frames. Also we found that the same thing happened on other exported clips and at the same point in the time code it was at 00:02:20:00 very strange.
All up I have yet to see an application capable of batch rendering as fast as Redrushes (using the processors to the max) and as reliably as Redcine.

If you come up with an application that actually works better than the existing ones, I'd pay for it.

This is because of the ALE bug in the older version of REDrushes which set the duration (End TC) too early. So when Media Composer tries to cram a chunk of essence into a master clip that is a wee bit too small it needs to to drop a few frames here and there.

Upgrade REDrushes and these random frame drops will no longer happen.

In our testing R3D Data Manager preforms about 5% to 10% faster than redrushes. There is a error in the current release version of R3D Data Manager that slows it down, but the next version absolutely preforms better.

And to answer the original question, it does TC burns, and you can select from a variety of different options.

Hi Conrad
I know of the performance of R3D Data manager V Redrushes and tried to get post on this project to use it seeing, as you know, they are already using it for checksums. But the workflow had already been established and I couldn't even convince them to check for an upgrade of Redrushes, I was fortunate enough to get them to use R3d data manager for checksums.

Yes R3D data manager is definitely a good app to export dailies with. You can also unlike Redrushes export CSV, Text and PDF files for data entry into a data base (in my case an excel sheet with some very groovy formulas).

Wondering though if it can or if not will it be able to work on multiple clips simultaneously and like Redrushes use all cores available at the same time?
