A short film I shot for Father's Day with my Scarlet-W and Leica R's. Love em, they were the perfect look for the project! This was the first narrative I've been able to shoot with my Scarlet-W and really pleased with it.

I'm pretty happy with the project and how it turned out given our low budget.

I tried to push the camera on this one and played around with the OLPFs -- one of the great things I love about this camera. I used the Skin Tone Highlight for all the day exteriors and Standard for the low light stuff.

Let me know what you think, and enjoy!

Caught this earlier in the Leica thread. Really enjoyed it Brian, everything about it.

I thought the cinematography was spot on, especially for the story. Very film like and natural images. Not sure how much time you all spent working on this, but it sure looks like a lot of time and care went into it.

Super beautiful! Really well done Brian. Love those Leica's too :)

There does seem to be an unusual amount of noise during the scene at 2:45. Do you know why that might be?

Nice work, Brian.
Always raising the bar.

I loved the film, Brian. Great shots and lensing. I love the dynamic range.

Great work Brian. Very spot on on all aspects. I have a question. Where did you find the pharmacy location? is it a set or a real pharmacy?

Thanks for the kind words, that means a ton coming from you guys!

The director and other producer actually come from wedding videography, this was their first narrative film so they brought be on board to help lead the way as a co-producer/DP. From our first pre-production meeting to now was about 1 month of production and 3 days of shooting. We had a compressed schedule because I was out of town during one of those weeks and they wanted to get it shot, edited, colored, and music done in 2 weeks, which we achieved. So basically, 1 week of pre-production, 3 days of shooting, and 2 weeks of post.

Throughout the whole shoot, I used 2 lights, an M18 and a Came-TV LED panel. Otherwise, I tried to go with the natural light (with lighting modifiers of course), because naturalism was what I was seeking. I'll admit, the capabilities of the RED certainly helped save me a couple times ;)

Super small crew too, it was me, my camera assistant, and gaffer/grip doing all the setups and the shots. A lot of work but I enjoy smaller crews!

It's a real location, Seaside Pharmacy in San Pedro. Surprisingly affordable too, they love having people shoot in there! I would recommend them, they were great to work with.

It's a really lovely film. But what's up with the red orb at 5:41?

You talking about the "burned in" flare? I've seen that a couple times with Raven/Scarlet-W footage, and I'm too wondering why that happens and how to fix it (without stopping down, as that is often not an option). Anyone? Phil?

Sorry missed this comment! Youtube added a ton of noise, most of it wasn't there in the master :(

I think that is a weird flare/internal lens reflection. That particular shot was on my 35mm which I've had serviced. Sadly I didn't notice it until after. None of my other lenses flare like that, I think I have some more testing to do!

It's great.
Can you tell a bit more about the sound? What did you use?

Thanks Ugo. To be honest, sound was the one part I was not involved in. The director and producer handled all the sound and music (they come from a music background). All I know is that we used a Rode boom and a small Tascam recorder.

Beautiful short. I really enjoyed it. Narrative and visuals/cinematography. Great work.

I noticed a bunch of noise in a couple of shots (car interior, house interior/exterior with on the dark brown). I don't know if it is the compression or the filming. But I would consider using the LLO.
