  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

da Vinci Systems: RED Raw Color Grading

daVinci might not be the superior grading tool. But grading on a Resolve from R3D is superior to grading a "R3D-converted-to-DPX". (since that might be done with a "one-setting-for-all-RedLine-Setting"

I'm not trying to say that daVinci is o much better then the rest, but now as a daVinci colorist I can drop the thoughts on getting a XXX to get better Red-support.
But we'll see what happens when RedRocket is out, if daVinci can use that or get left behind with propriatory expensive hardaware...

I already told you, that you're incorrect on the "R3D-converted-to-DPX". There is no "prior import" or background debayering needed in Baselight. Baselight operates exactly like Scratch, directly from r3d files with live debayer. There are no intermediate files of any kind used or created. FilmLight had already committed to use the RedRocket once it becomes available. Seriously, this endless talk of Davinci superiority over other color solutions just shows luck of knowledge about competing solutions. DaVinci is great color grading solution and they don't need to spread FUD.

Let me be more specific:

For a daVinci colorist it's superior to work in Resolve frmo R3D
Compared to working in RESOLVE form a "R3D-converted-to-DPX".
I'm not talking about another CC-tool.
thats all

sorry if I was unclear.

Since Red starting to pop up for commercial jobs here in Sweden we have bee stuck with MonkeyExtract (good program, not affiliated) to take the EDL and convert my needed R3D into DPX so that my Resolve could work on it.

It just so nice now that I can load everything straight from R3D and don't worry about it.
Because of this I'm very excited about this daVinci release. Maybe a bit to happy.
But I'm sure you got excited when your app (Baselight?) got good R3D-support.
Basicly I gues everyone that uses the SDK works more or less the same way now.
