Hello everybody,
I finally find a steadicam, but to minimise the weight at the top of the steadicam, I would like to power the red with a battery at the bottom of the steadicam.
After some search, my idea is to buy a Power Cable D-Tap to 2B-6-Pin-Lemo-Male, and a d-tap extension cable.
Do you think it is a good solution?
Is anyone has already buy a D-Tap to 2B-6-Pin-Lemo-Male?
Have you another solution to connect the Red One to a battery at the opposite side of the steadicam?

Your idea can work, but the external cable may swing and cause instability if not held taut, and it'll limit how far you can pan the sled.

Most professional "Steadicams"come with a power connector at the top of the sled which is powered by the battery at the bottom of the sled via an internal cable in the post. You should then just need a cable with the right connector to match, and the correctly wired 2B 6pin Lemo at the other end.

It's very important that you wire up the Lemo with the battery voltage and ground connected to the correct TWO PAIRS of pins in the Lemo - the Red One Operation Guide manual has the pin-outs in the Appendices. Failure to do so will damage an expensive circuit board in your camera!

I had the exact same situation with customizing by budget "steadi" - the problem was that a ready-made cable is impossible to run through the center post. So I ended up making my own Lemo female to Lemo male cable with a suitable grade of 4-connector cable by running it through the post and then soldering the second connector afterwards. The nice thing about this is that I can just mount the battery on my Red Cradle at the bottom of the sled and plug it directly into the Lemo jack for the power cable, which comes out of the stage at the top.

You actually only need a two conductor power cable (as long as it's rated for the maximum current draw the battery will supply for the cameras you intend to use), PROVIDED they are EACH wired to PAIRS of pins at the Lemo end, as specified by Red in the manual.

Good point, very true. However, soldering those darn Lemos is probably way easier with a 4-way cable...
