Hey, guys. I just did a quick test using DEB in the new Redcine-X BETA (https://www.red.com/downloads/4f56854e6261f95a570006af). The frame was shot and processed at 800ISO, Redgamma3 with no curves or anything else applied. I've attached the same frame with DEB and without DEB, along with cropped parts of the image to focus on the red noise in the shadows. If you look at the cropped images, you can see it really helps with the noise on the wall behind him, and also with the red noise on his blue jeans in the bottom left corner.

But one strange thing I see is the DEB seems to be adding red along the edges of the gun, which I found surprising. I still think DEB is worth using for this shot since it helps with the noise, but it does make me wonder what other ways DEB might be affecting the reds.

A new version is due out very soon, in any case.

That particular issue crept back in, was spotted, and fixed so the next version should no longer do that. It looks a smidgen better in other areas too.

I'm probably very much in the minority here, but while DEB really seems to make a still image cleaner, I like the richness I see in moving images made with the v2 OLPF Dragon footage.

I don't think you're that much in the minority.

Personally I think that turning D.E.B. off and using Neat Video will be the highest quality option.

Even without using Neat Video and just using medians, blurs, keys, etc, I fins that D.E.B. doesn't give much more info than I can achieve in Nuke / After Effects. Often less.

"richness" that immediately becomes pixellated mush when you distribute to such compressed formats as youtube and broadcast digital television - even blu-ray does not like too much noise, and neither does iTunes. So one can only agree with you if one has little to no knowledge of how current video distribution re-compression works.

Not sure if Neat Video is as good - will need to do more testing.

Kinda harsh judgment of my shooting abilities or my distribution knowledge. Now I'm depressed.
