We are about to prep a feature film for finishing on DiVinci 2K, unfortunately, because of lack of funding, we hadn't planned to finish this way, and now I need to figure out how to get the film exported so we can grade it.

Unless the DaVinci 2K can natively read R3D, I need to export DPXs of the whole timeline that can be relinked in the DaVinci.

Any ideas?

The "offline" edit was done using the Final Cut L&T workflow. Clips were transcoded as 2K ProRes proxies.

I've done some tests with Clipfinder and have been able to successfully link back to the R3D files. I was thinking that if I created an EDL for each reel of the film based on a timeline relinked to the R3Ds, then perhaps the DaVinci could read it and do the same. However, the R3D media spans 5 hard drives, which could create problems if I copy all the media over to one volume on the the DaVinci storage.

I also have Avid Media Composer at my disposal. One possibility I was considering was trying to conform my FCP timeline in MC (not exactly sure how I would do that though), then export EDL/XML data that the DiVinci could open and use for conforming to the R3D.

So, ask you can see, I don't really know where to begin. I could really use your help. Thanks so much.

Do yourself a favor and find a facility with Resolve, if producers insist on DaVinci product. Resolve can read R3D files natively, as is Baselight, FilmMaster, Scratch, Speedgrade... Or you can wait a little, until Resolve on Mac is out:smilewinkgrin:

A DaVinci 2K is a linear color grading system and not a conforming system so you'll have to conform in something else and then hit a tape format for use with that system. You're best bet is what Uli suggested, find a system that works with native R3Ds. While a 2K can do great work it doesn't sound like it's right for you job at all.
