  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Custom Cases for DSMC2

I actually own three cases from HPRC and got them in the states -- DJI Ronin M, Inspire 1, and tripod hard case. The cases are solid and the custom cut foam is the best part. Be wary that after each travel job you should inspect and realign the pegs used to hold the latches in place as they will come loose and could unlatch. I don't see it as a dealbreaker but coming from Pelican, it is a bit surprising that it has that type of weakness.

Oh man, I was hoping their foam lab people would be able to make the foam for me for a Pelican Case. Are you required to use one of their cases with their foam?

I'd love to get foam made for Epic-W with a Tilta i/o and Sidekick, plus some minimags and a 7" touch, but fitted inside a really nondescript looking carry-on suitcase. Would any of these suppliers be able to hook that up?

I've been using custom laser cut foam for years as I love the protection and how sleek and organized it looks. But for my new Epic-W purchase, I was considering using the Trekpak system. Anyone have any thoughts on that versus custom foam for inside the case. I like the flexibility but worry about the protection it provides...

HI Louis,

I'm not upset that you want us to remove our branding. Its just not something that we typically do. I would be more upset if somebody accused us of getting mad at a customer simply for asking a question. :-)

If anyone is interested in having high-end custom cases made for their Epic-W package, feel free to contact me at jason@CinemaOxide.com

We are reviewing ideas for the next Epic-W case package

With TrekPak, you get ultimate space management, ability to reconfigure to purpose but with little room for stuffs to still shake around during movement. However, with custom cut I think the highest advantage is protection. Stuffs are firmly in place, movement (within) is minimal if not non-existent. But, you lose quite some space. From my experience with RED's custom case that came with bundled order, I actually still prefer trekpak, as it allows me to pack more stuffs into a single box

Hi Jason -- I had asked you to do a custom case for me and we progressed through the design and then you disappeared and stopped responding to messages about six months ago so I gave up -- are you now back to making cases? Maybe things got lost in translation?

so your're saying we can get Jason cases without the Jason logo now by request? sorry its just not CLEAR in your response.

its not something you typically do I get it, but make a logo or trademark that isn't just your name. Its more professional and doesn't raise eyebrows when people want to know who Jason is. no offense and no disrespect intended, your cases are awesome and Ive seen no problems with them other than the name.. #1 reason I haven't purchased one. I might get one with CinemaOxide on them however I would really prefer no logo or branding for my case. Some people like stealth.

Neil Dearman swears by the Trekpak system. I have rented his gear for years and he only uses TrekPak.. I never had any problems and everything could be custom fit to secure into place. 100% usable space pretty much compared to the space you loose with the foam inserts.

There is just something so sexy about custom cut foam.. ;)

Who are you guys using for custom cut foam for your DSMC2 eco system?

I was going to use Jason at Jason Cases but I asked if he could do it without putting his name on the foam and he got a little upset at me.

I'm looking for unbranded foam. I think the name of the person who cuts he foam etched on it looks tacky.

I personally wasn't too much of a fan of the case you had for your epic, I guess it was the Jason Case... it was too rigid, hard surfaced and not so discreet, it was all in your face.. things had to be inserted exactly, with no room to throw in an extra battery.. all extra labeling is very unnecessary and frankly a little eccentric.. you can go to vistaprint and get free business cards, but the back of it says Vistaprint.. putting your name on something I've never seen branded like foam seems like the same thing.

It's more pro to have a dark, generic, custom high quality foam insert.. I'd be curious to see how your do your foam, I'm very happy with what I got from RED.

Yep, that Epic case was from Jason.

Want something less in your face from a design perspective but foam so that I everything is nicely protected. I like the RED one too, but the foam is sort of tearing already so I need a harder foam and I'd ideally like to try to find a way to organize it where I can fit even more in the case.

Agreed, I like it stealth and would like to get a custom Jason case if possible with it Not being branded... Jason is that what your saying can be done?

Does anyone have some basic measurements/dimensions for the DSMC2 Side Handle? I haven't received mine yet, but I'm trying to design my case.

I use TrekPak extensively (over 40 cases), and it is fantastic for around-town use. However, it isn't the best for shipping your gear. Nothing beats laser-cut foam for protecting your gear during shipping. I have a couple of Jason's cases and they are very nice.

I personally miss the cinemaoxide case for the DSMC1. That case let me pack everything securely. I got the side handle for my DSMC2 and I love that thing. Personally I'd like to keep it on the camera. Does anyone know if there is a generic dsmc2 case that allows for the side handle to stay on the camera like there was for the DSMC1?

If you do not mind a little tweaking of the DSMC2 case that it was shipped in and you can pull the AC power adapter out - it fits well with the handle with just a little shaving.

Thanks for that suggestion! I didnt even think of that. I'll take a look when I get home! Much appreciated!

I highly recommend mycasebuilder.com because you can customize your designs, edit them, and apply them to other cases. However, it does take quite a bit of time to design and other custom cases probably have real nice foam material. But, I'm really happy with my case and it allows me to keep all my WC stuff on the camera.
