Hi

I had the RED ONE flying on a Floatcam FC12 today (courtesy of cameraspeed in twickenham, UK). It flew very nicely on the rig, but due to a couple of cable issues, it wasnt exactly in an optimum setup...

As the FC12 only has 2 pin lemo to 4 pin XLR power cables to power the camera, i had to run the RED from an onboard battery. Obviously this isnt ideal for steadicam work as having the 19mm bars, cradle and battery were adding unneccessary weight to the rig. I was also running my downconverter as the FC12 is currently a composite only sled, so came out of the RED on HDSDI through my REDBYTE HD2SD and then into the sled. Problem is the REDBYTE (and a lot of other d/cs) needs a 12v feed on a standard 2.1mm DC plug.

It would be much better set up for floatcam with the 15mm bars, mattebox, LCS (viewfactor?) etc, and powering the camera from the rig, and the d/c from the camera accessories port but this would require having some custom power cables made up for both requirements.

With these cables, the Floatcam FC12 would be a viable steadicam alternative for the RED ONE.

Any suggestions where we might be able to get cables made up?

Cheers

In Canada, the cable authority in all steadicam related cabling is called David Hable, at http://www.crampedattic.com
Tell him exactly what you need (pin out configuration, lenght of cable, use) and he will make it. I have dealt with him for the past 6 years and have had excellent customer service ever since.
Check the steadicamforum and make a quick search for DAVID HABLE, you'll know what to expect.
Fly safe.

Much appreciated.

Ideally i want to find someone in the UK, but i will certainly check him out.

Thanks.

A.
