So, while waiting on the forums endlessly/aimlessly I have been thinking of some ideas for RED accessories I can design and produce. I'm curious for any ideas of accessories you guys think are necessary or desired that RED will not be making that would be good to workup. BTW, if this topic isn't allowed in the forums, Moderators feel free to remove.

I'm thinking of creating some unique components, etc, but REDs pricing is so good for what they offer it wouldn't be good to make similar things. Currently we are just making sliders, but I've got a lot in the works regarding DSLR gear, like this ZENcage system pictured here, but now that I am getting a Scarlet I'm thinking of new ideas.

Funny thing is even though I can produce practically anything via CNC, etc, I still think I will be buying REDs stuff personally for my RED gear. I don't see how anything better can be designed for what they already have. Anyone wanting to help out or collaborate that doesn't feel comfortable sharing here, feel free to send a PM

Hey Eric, cool I'll play for a minute.

I'd love to see "Scarlet's WEB X"

Basically a top handle meets RED's tactical cage Ribs.
Something along the lines of a top handle with an arcing X shaped cross pieces coming off it that provide versatile side handles and rigging points - in a cheap all in one component. Wacky huh.

Right, I can hear mum calling...

Two ideas that I think Scarlet owners might be interested in:
-plate/platform to attach an RF mike receiver to back/side of body
-plate/attachment for accepting Atmos/PIX recorders.
-bracket/clamp assy allow easy mount of short-shotgun mike to top corner of body
Of course it goes without saying this will be a challenge since the size and specs of these devices can vary so much. But no one claimed it would be easy!

Thanks guys. I'm currently finalizing the DSLR cage system shown in my other post below and the accessories for this. My concept which I'll post here soon for some input, could work with our DSLR cage and whatever Scarlet accessories we build (we feel there will be a lot of crossover filmmakers coming from a lower budget DSLR system which will now be purchasing Scarlet too). I like all my components to be interchangeable, even across camera systems. This has been the hardest design implementation, but we are moving along well. I look forward to checking here from time to time to see if there is any new ideas, etc.

I'll be designing and posting some new things and renderings very soon.

it's very easy, to win - you need to be able to offer if not better, at least the same quality product for less, and , probably the most important part, have strong advertising strategy;
that's all

Looks really good Eric, and I'd be excited to see what you come up with.
Just be a tad careful that you don't fall foul of posting rules.. I'm not sure if you're a 'sponser' but as a heads-up:

But certainly exciting to see people looking forward to rig possibilities

Thanks, I am actually a sponsor on DVXuser.com as most of our accessories are for DSLR cams at the moment. This site is also run by Landmine who handles that I think, so I'll reach out to my rep Jason to see what my privileges are for posting. At the moment I am actually not selling products RED related so I don't think I would be stepping on any toes. I've been pretty active in the forums lately and I just bought a Scarlet and accessories, so this is mainly to see what people think we would need. Currently I don't really see anything better than the RED accessories themselves but was trying to see what ideas might work.

I'll follow up with my rep prior to posting any designs, etc here regarding products. More than likely, if we develop gear for RED, I'll be a sponsor here as well. Thanks guys.

It's all cool - and I didn't for a minute think that you were posting spam :) I'm sure you'll get great responses. I was just posting in the spirit of ' I just read this thread where it was an issue.... '

If you're taking rig requests / suggestions for the Scarlet X.. I have a few suggestion :P

I would love some requests, conversation, etc, but please PM or email me as just to be respectful to the forum and the rules, I do want to look into what is allowed first prior to me posting my designs here. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hi,

Eric J that looks really great! Hope you come up with loads of stuff. I wouldn't worry. My thread was in retrospect definitely borderline and I got carried away. As Im a novice when it comes to sponsorship it was closed down, but Jason and Jarred are helping me out to resolve it now, so hopefully it will only be a misunderstanding. Just contact them and don't get to excited about your announcements as I did ;). Good luck with it all.

Thanks for the input, I'll look into this further, but for now ideas about products that are not in the works should be fine to speak about. When we have renderings or actual products, if we in fact decide to go that route, I'll reserve posting anything regarding images or RED related products here until we are an advertiser.

Thanks to everyone with some great ideas. We have though about some of these things, but keep them coming.

Agreed. Top handle + LCD is a weird setup as it stands.

From what I can see on the RED.com site, RED does seem to offer very good options to mount the LCD but not enough pictures of how to do so with many options. I'm sure there are some user pics showcasing this. I have some of my own ideas and will take that input as something to work on. Manufacturing is a huge task and expense, but the design for us is an easy solution, so I may start here first and do a few products with a vote system instead of being a competitor and then start advertising should we launch an actual product. I think we will prototype and CNC some things soon (into 2012) and hand some things out for testing prior to real manufacturing to some of the real big boys on this site. Shawn Nelson has one of our sliders but with the weight of his system fully loaded, he recommended some changes. Using lightweight rigs, even up to 20lbs or more the system has been tested flawless, but it is that feedback that we will take into consideration in the development of our newer units, etc.

Again, I'm a designer/producer, and I feel I have a good sense for design and products (although it is easy to overlook some ideas) but from what I can see, RED seems to have all the best accessories already. I like their tactical plate better than any because it has all the side 1/4 20s instead of flowing with the body of the camera. I think everyone has their ideas about what is best and what works for them but we are looking to do something completely new and necessary if possible.

I think we may start on accessories that could work with what RED already produces rather than try and compete against something that is stellar already and in production. Innovation and new ideas are the key and since I am at the very beginning of real growth with my company cineZEN USA, we will definitely listen to customers.

I can see RED has some of the best designers. There products are like high end art to me. I can literally stare at a picture of the Scarlet or Epic for hours like a great painting. I just sent an email to Jason Ramsey to see what the privileges are here to chat about things. I'm assuming since it is just a beginning of ideas it can't hurt, but we want to be fair to anyone here too. I'll keep this posting live to review ideas of what guys want but will reserve any designs etc until I hear the feedback from the advertising guys.
