Hey everyone,
I have a few basic questions to ask before I start experimenting with workflows from Premiere CS6 to Davinci Resolve 9 Lite.
My CS6 project settings are:
RED RAW
1920x1080 (2.35:1 matte applied in timeline)
23.976fps
I'm using 5k,4k and 3k media in my project (music video). My first question is:
By selecting a 1920x1080 timeline am I...loosing any resolution with my larger 5k,4k,3k files? I know that sounds stupid off the bat but let me go on. So when I import a 5k clip into my 1920x1080 timeline,
it of course doesn't fit the frame, so I manually scale it back to 40% which fits nicely. From there I may need to do a bit of re-framing, by scaling up to 50% or 60% and moving the image around to correct for bogies in the frame.
By scaling it up to 50%, or 60% and so on, am I loosing resolution, or details that would not be lost if I were to have a 5k timeline and then scale up to 120% or 150%? I'm still trying to wrap my head around having 5k media in my 1920x1080 timeline, and
figuring out whether or not this is the best option to maintain resolution until final delivery (1920x1080 for the web). Convoluted I know, I just need some help with this one.
Secondly, when I export an FCP 7 XML or EDL and bring it into Resolve, none of my scaling attributes carry over.
Someone suggested to me that I not worry about that for now, then do my grade as I would, then once rendered out and I've re-exported back to CS6, do my scaling again.
However, because I have resolve lite, I am limited to a 1920x1080 export...so if I were to send those files to CS6 then start zooming in on them and what not, I would be loosing a great deal of clarity/resolution by going sub 1080 with clips that need punching in on.
I know these are all probably pretty novice questions, but any help would be tremendously appreciated!
Cheers
Jon
