I've got an incredibly aggravating bug on my hands. I've got a big Premiere CS6 (Mac) project with over 12,000 Epic R3D files. I've done quite a bit of sorting and logging, but every now and then when coming back to the project after having closed Premiere, a bunch of the files will appear to be unlinked, although there's never any popup indication of any files having gone offline. The files with the problem appear to be totally random, usually with only 25-50% of the files in a certain folder being offline, and oftentimes with many folders being untouched. When I try to relink them, I get the error 'Unsupported Format or Damaged File.' But nothing has changed to the files... they just become totally unplayable within that project. If I try to reimport them, they are automatically recognized as damaged.
After much hair-pulling, I eventually found that if I renamed the file or the folder containing the file, the clips would suddenly become both linkable and capable of being imported again.
The problem keeps popping up randomly, and I find myself having to continually rename folders and relink the files within them, which is obviously time consuming and ridiculous.
Has anyone had this problem? Or have an idea on how to circumvent it or at least make it easier to relink things if clips go offline? The fact that Premiere appears to consider some files as 'damaged' until they're renamed makes it seem like the program has some kind of cached list of 'bad' files, and if that list could be cleared or reset, they wouldn't be identified as such. Or, hopefully, there's some much easier solution.
Thanks!

We have heard various reports of this but never got a solid repro case. We haven't seen it in Premiere Pro CC yet but it is elusive. If you have any hints on repro we would love to see it. The one trick that we found that helps is search your user library folder for *.ims files and delete those with the project closed. Then open the project.

Cheers

Thanks, Dave. I may have actually figured it out... I did some searching around on the forum and found a suggestion to reinstall the Adobe CS6 Red Plugin. I had installed this quite some time ago, but may have updated Premiere since, which could have caused the snafu. Tried the reinstall an hour ago and since reopening the project everything seems to be linked up. Hopefully it'll stay that way!

Yes if you update ppro without updating the plugin again that will do it. We don't plan do to the plugin updating model anymore now that we can more easily release updates.

I've just had this happen... I can't get it to re-link to two files... both files are not corrupt and I can re-import them, but I cannot re-link them because it says they are damaged or unsupported. Anymore insight on this?

I had this happen with CS6, never did find a proper workaround. But just had it happen in CC tonight. Since installing CC have had no problems, then earlier today loaded a project and was getting Media Pending that never sorted itself out. Force Quitting and starting over, and over and over, it would be random each time, sometimes loading just a few, sometimes loading all but two or three. Restarting seems to help.
