  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CS5 One Light Color Correction

Quick tip, you copy and paste the color finesse plugin from AE plugins folder to PPro Plugins folder. Caution only the simplified interface plays back in realtime but you have to set up preferences in the full interface. Use the RGB wheels and curves. Once you are done quick grading go back to the interface and switch from 8bit to 32bit float before you render. it actually plays back in real time at 8 bit.

edit: I must Admit that the color finesse interface is very simple and very boring to look at, but its free. The tools are very industrial video like (whatever that means). They are not Apple Color user friendly. It takes a while to figure out where the contrast sliders are and how to figure out luminance values. Even in high bit floating point the color transitions between say blue in the shadows and beige highlights are not that smooth, ( this may be due to my inexperience). I tried clicking on the maximum bit rate box in PPro, nothing changed. I was using Red footage. I am assuming the lack of FLUT sliders could be responsible. I hope someone else can verify this....

Edit: I figured it out, I was using the wrong color wheels and sliders thereby limiting the threshold. It actually is very pleasing and very accurate. You can push the color into the shadows by defining what areas are shadow and midrange without affect your subject or actor whatsoever. Its very precise as you can nudge the strength of mid-tones in a push pull manner. Unlike Apple color that tend to darken or quickly crush blacks, the levels slider in color finesse 3, works in tandem with the curves tool, plus luminance range and produces a super smooth transition. Did I mention this is all in Premiere pro CS5
