I think I am doing something wrong.

When I bring in my RDM files, sometimes it duplicates files. There will be 2, 3 or even four of the same file on my hard drive, and then in Premiere, but with ammended file names _001, _002, _003 etc.

I remove them from my project, then delete them from my computer, but I am not sure why that is happening?

Next, biggest and not necessarily related, my footage freezes up and gets stopped. Meaning the first minutes of a shot will be fine, but then it is just audio. The images freezes or takes a real real long time to refresh. The original clips are fine, checked in RCX. THe clips in general came in fine the first time... anyone experience this? What am I doing wrong, and most importantly how do I "refresh" the footage so it is playing back smoothly?

Thanks

.... and just like that, I answer my own question. I deleted the adobe preview files and media cash, reopened the project, fine so far.

I am guessing that removing the duplicate files somehow messed up the original previews?

EDIT:

Ok, wrong again, most all is fine and definately beign responsive and awesome again, but this ONE CLIP has the last part gone. Here is a shot of it in the timeline, it has these angled slashes across the footage where it is gone.

And now that file isn't working off my hard drive either. Thankfully I back everything up right away, and the backup R3D is still in tact. Copying that back over now. But this is getting serious!

Jeffrey, r3d files of long takes are broken into multiple chunks to ensure that they do not go over the file size limitation of certain media. Those .001, .002, .003 etc are parts of your footage as you have found out by the end of the clip disappearing when you deleted the file. You need those altogether. Why you are having playback issues in premiere pro I am not quite sure without more information.

But don't delete those extra files, ever.

Craig!

Thanks!

No joke, I just figured that out myself. Good thing I back things up! Where I got misled and confused is that Premiere handles each of those 001 002 003 004 files as a complete file when dragged to the timeline. I see now I just need the first one.

Thanks for the help Craig! Thankfully it doesn't look like I screwed the pooch to bad on this project and am one step closer to having the level of PP familiarity that I had achieved with FCP.

FWIW - the freezing I now believe was caused when I would scrub over the incomplete (because I had removed the additional files) part of a cli9p, and the computer would slow right down looking for that.
