I am curious if there are significant benefits with using Adobe apps on workstations connected to a SAN.

Do large Premiere projects become more stable? Is After Effects playback improved? Or do files and projects just load faster?

Thanks.

Edgar

Being on a SAN doesn't make it faster or more stable. The SAN allows you to seamlessly share your media with other workstations. That is pretty much all a SAN does, but that is a really big deal. Sharing media allows everything from distributed rendering, to collaberative editing, to multi-workstation workflows. (We offline on an AXIO, color in SpeedGrade, and finish on a Blackmagic system) Not all hardware can be used on the same system due to resource and driver conflicts, and different steps in the workflow may require different hardware support. You should never have to copy files to a different drive. (Besides making backups)

Hi Mike. That makes a lot of sense, and you are right that it is a big deal. We learned the hard way what it is like to run multiple workstations and share drives between them.

Thanks for the info. I will send you an email shortly to catch up on a few things.
