Working on a project planning to do dailies in Resolve 9 (Lite) and the editorial staff has requested MXF files in DNxHD 36. Starting media is EPIC 4KHD and 5K.

The problem is when I render and export the clips, I can't get them to import in AVID MC6.0.0. I get this:

You can't import this file into a bin. See documentation .... etc.

If I just double click the file, I get this:

AvidMediaComposer is unable to open "name of my file"

I have also noticed that when including audio, resolve creates a new MXF for each audio track. Also not desired.

How are you guys making it work with AVID?

BTW- Creating a AAF also doesn't work. Clueless!

You have to use the proper file structure

A folder with the name "Avid MediaFiles" (spelled and spaced exactly as i wrote it) needs to be at the root level of your drive (i.e., not inside any other folders)

Inside the "Avid MediaFiles" , create a folder named "MXF"

Inside the "MXF" folder, create a folder named "1" (no quotation marks around any of those folders

Put the .mxf files you made inside the "1" folder

Avid will create index files in the "1" folder along with your .mxf transcodes, drag the bottom one (can't remember the extension name offhand) into a bin

A separate MXF file for each audio track is proper and normal when working with Avid. It doesn't matter if you "desire" it or not. And as explained by others, you don't import MXF files into Avid. You place them in the proper place and create master clips that link to them using either AAF's or a direct drag and drop of the database file Avid creates when it scans the folder.

I don't want to belabor this, but claiming to be "clueless" when you're apparently selling yourself as having the knowledge and expertise to do this job is not really acceptable. If you're taking the job and being paid for it, you need to know how to do it. Period.

First:
Thank you Joe & Michael for your help. I've found information relating to the Avid Media Files already trying to figure this out but could not figure out where this folder was supposed to belong. Your prompt, unbiased help is what I have come to expect from the generous user base on this forum. Thank you.

Second, @M Most:

Seriously? I would think that thoroughly testing a workflow before just handing off files would be the hallmark of someone who takes thing seriously and professionally. I don't have to know all the inner working of the editors platform just to supply dailies, just enough to make sure the editorial staff gets what they need in the proper format. A professional checks twice and asks questions when it doesn't work. If you just don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. Period.
