  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CRASHING!

Try removing userfolder/Library/Preferences/com.red.RedCineX.plist

I find that if I have a slow disk attached to my system or have a lot of R3D files in a folder RCX crashes. If I try to scroll through files too fast RCX crashes. The file browser in RCX is very unstable.

With build 261, I just did a job with probably 300 clips spread across the 3 bins and never had an issue.

I've found that it's pretty important not to over-tax a system while rendering. Close other apps, don't interrupt renders, etc.

I second that. Also the browser shows drives that are no
longer attached, but was there when a crash happened.

This seems to happen when you have an export preset going to an external drive that is used when no longer mounted. It then writes files to that file path.
We'll add some checks against that but for now go into /Volumes and clear out that directory.

Lots of improvements to the browser have been going into RCX lately. Browser images tend to take alot of memory and if you're rendering to Quicktime, it'll bogart as much as it feels like and cause memory problems without notification. New changes to the architecture coming to improve that also.

Any suggestions as to how a production shooting on Red MX is supposed render to Quicktime then? I have a bunch of green screen shots I need to render to ProRes 4444, and right now with build 262, I can't get more than 2-3 clips rendered and then the RCX render queue freezes up.

Thanks,
Bryan

Thanks for the hard work Deanan, it really is getting better and better and I am here to help remind people that APPLE and QUICKTIME THE PIG are crashing Redcine-X not the software.

Dont even get Deanan started on how much he hates Quicktime ;)

That said, someone should start an anti Apple thread because that cell phone company should not be making pro software anymore

That's not normal.
Email redcinex at red.com with a zip of the log directory and a description of how you're using the app (ie. how many clips in bins, timeline, what you're doing as the steps you use to process, etc) and we'll try to figure out what's wrong. Also, how much ram you have.

Appreciate it Deanan.

I sent all the logs and emails earlier today to redcinex at red dot com

MacBookPro 3.06GHZ, OS 10.6.3, 8GB RAM
Latest versions of all Red bits and pieces. Build 262 Redcine-X
