Crank: High voltage

Lloyd Kaufman is the construction guy on the route 95 ...

In this month's HDVideoPro they interviewed Neveldine and Taylor, and they said they were great cameras.

They showed this rig that they built for the HF10's, and it looked great, basically it was 7 HF10's focused on the same focal point on this crescent rail.

They said they'll be doing a lot of low-budget "bullet time" effects with it, since the editor can either combine an image from the cameras and cut back and forth between them, or just use one frame from each camera in sequence, and they raved about the flexibility of having so many small cameras.

They said for the film they used 15 HF10's, 5 XHA1's, and 1 Sony EX1 for a slow-motion scene.

They said they shot with gain set to zero, with the Cine gamma and cine matrix set on, but with all of the other settings set to zero or default, with a 1/1000 - 1/2000 shutter speed for almost everything.

He also said that they didn't even really use any 35mm adapters or anything, just the stock lens, with a Canon Wide Angle lens screwed onto the front.

For post, they moved it all to HDCAM after they were done filming, uploaded it into the system from that, synched it up with the audio they recorded from their external recorders, then just edited with it.

He said they went with a very deep focus for this, and did a lot of sharpening and color correction in post, but otherwise he was very happy with the cameras since they were able to put them everywhere, and get the scene from multiple angles at the same time, since the cameras are so small that it's almost impossible to see them even when they catch one another.
