Experienced Camera Person Needed (Seattle)

Hello!

Since we are supposedly in a low-budget economy, we are looking to shoot Seattle's grittiest low-budget film.

We are seeking the talents of an experienced camera operator.

You must:
1. have very nice shooting talents and a very nice camera that will produce an excellent image on screen
2. have a no-b.s. attitude
3. be willing to work for no money--this isn't about getting paid, this is about making a film. Those who work for no money are the world's truest filmmakers.
4. be on-time and enthusiastic
5. take direction well
6. want to participate in some really gritty, really raw, hardcore filmmaking

Thank you!

Talk to you soon, whoever you are.

I'm all about the love of film making, heck I've been known to do quite a few projects for free, but it always erks me when people say "a true artist is one who will work for free."
I'm sure most if not all of us are in this business because we love what we do, but when does getting paid for what you love to do disqualify you as a true artist?

Best part is, obviously this experienced camera operator should be good enough to have purchased their own equipment, that this crew would then like to use for free.:unhappy:

Just for fun, bring a Red One, fully equipped, and slowly start making demands. First you say you want to, not only DP, but to direct. Then after a day or two you say, you want to cut the movie and make some major adjustments to the script. When everyone is about to leave the project, demand you should have the lead role.. or the camera leaves the project.

I'm mostly interested to find out what "really gritty, really raw, hardcore filmmaking" is.

:D

I think you should contact them, tell them you have a Red, you're interested, and ask what its all about.

After you've reported back here, you can give them the bad news about your "money troubles", due to all the free work you do, the depression, and how your selling your camera so your kids don't go homeless etc :)

Oh, hang on, its not for free at all, there's compensation

"THAT feeling--you know what it is--will be returned to you in its fullest"

What feeling? Shit, I think I better contact them and find out what its about, I hope they don't have an NDA made up by some Lawyer working for free when I spill the beans..

Welcome to the new reality... same people that want a 6 grand Mac Pro when they can't afford a $1000 MacBook... and it goes on and on. I think they call it socialism.

I especially loved this part:

"Compensation: THAT feeling--you know what it is--will be returned to you in its fullest"

Hilarious.

Bravo to all the suggested scenarios --

In my experience nitty-gritty hard-core often translates: couldn't be bothered to write anything down because I'd prove I'm way too much of a genius and scare away all those people who love to provide free equipment and bust their asses for nothing as well...

You know, the funny thing is, there actually are some very worthy projects out there that have little to no funding, but it's always interesting how you can pick out the ones that are worth your while, and those that are just pure bs.

I totally agree..
Ive worked for free on lots of gigs - ie music vids, indies, side projects, etc...
Usually it's someone I know, or a friend of someone I know and the project is definitely worth my time...
I find it funny that this one TELLS you how you should feel, and that it's pretty much your duty as an artist to work for nada.
I'm just wondering...from my experiences in this great filmaking world is it possible to have all these attributes? :

You must:
1. have very nice shooting talents and a very nice camera that will produce an excellent image on screen
2. have a no-b.s. attitude
3. be willing to work for no money--this isn't about getting paid, this is about making a film. Those who work for no money are the world's truest filmmakers.

I mean.. I can see 3 or 4 out of the 6, but all of them? That's like the 'Bionic Cam-Op!!'

I wonder if this would work for a singles ad....

You must:
1. have very nice honkers and a very nice caboose that will produce an excellent image on home video
2. have a no-b.s. attitude
3. be willing to date me for no dinner, movies or flowers--this isn't about getting paid, this is about making me happy. Those who date for no reward are the world's truest girls
4. be on-time and enthusiastic
5. take direction well
6. want to participate in some really gritty, really raw, hardcore filmmaking

Thank you!

Talk to you soon, whoever you are.
