Hi all, I hope someone can help me out with this, thanks in advance:

EVF fixed gives stutter, the manual says, synced flickers but no stutter. Open gate: neither. What's going on here? The explanations for Open Gate and Synced are very similar.

The knob on the side of my EVF doesn't seem to make any difference when rotated, I thought it was supposed to make the image brighter. Is it the build I'm on or is my knob faulty. (Good thing my missus doesn't browse this forum)

Hi Thomas,

In my experience, the EVF stutters, always. If I recall correctly, Open Gate is made to simulate a film camera, you see when you are not recording, or is that Synced mode ?

The knob is not to adjust the brightness, it allows you to access the EVF menu, if it is activated. I always deactivate it, since accidentaly hitting that button can change settings.

Cheers,
Damien

I find that open gate works well and gets rid of the stutter.

In my experience film cameras usually have optical viewfinders that flicker. The eyepiece shows you the moments between the frames - when the film gate is exposed the shutter is clear and the viewfinder goes black. Then the shutter blocks the gate while the claw moves the next frame into place, and the mirrored back of the shutter directs the light to the eyepiece.

As for the EVF wheel, you have to enable the EVF menu here:

System menu - setup - preferences - display menu - EVF menu.

Then when you press the wheel a menu appears on the left side that includes the option to adjust brightness, among other things.

Why the menu is not enabled by default on the camera, I don't know.

Thanks so much for your answers; I should've known the EVF menu thing.

In the manual it says Synced avoids 2:3 pull down but doubles the capture frame rate displaying 25fps at 50Hz.

Open gate says that all monitor path images viewed at 50HZ for 25fps recording

:sosp:

Open gat affects other features Synced dunt, what's going on there is what I'm asking?
