I count at least Three EPICS at this years SUPERBOWL.

1) 1541 My EPIC X

2) NFL Films has One EPIC M that will be shooting the SUPEBOWL, (it has been shooting NFL games for the last eight weeks)

3) One EPIC is shooting a super secret project for the main broadcaster

Who else has an EPIC at the SuperBowl?

Also Look for the NEW NAC/Ikegami system at this years Superbowl....it's frame rate range is from 30FPS-1000Fps...the SUPERBOWL Will be using 300FPS
on 4 cameras.

I'd drive down from Chicago if I had something to shoot ;)

Cool we shot the Orange Bowl on ours. A lot of people came over to look at the Camera (Photogs/ TV Camera crew). It's fun to bring a gun to a knife fight.

Just caught a special on KNBC about the network's coverage: looks like 40 Sony HD cameras covering the actual live game, and another 17 covering the pre-game/half-time. Unbelievable.

When I was a camera operator a long time ago, 8 or 9 cameras was considered a lot for covering a football game (in the mid-to-late 1970s).

GUN? More like a BAZUKA... with a 5" LCD... :)

I Missed the special, but it sounds very accurate....40+ cameras including a RED EPIC that may make Air a few times,(1st in SuperBowl History)!

Did the EPIC ever make air?

I'm curious how you'd drop a live Epic on the air, given the need for reference signals, common frame sizes, frame rates, and live Rec709 color space.

I won't be surprised if there will be 4K live broadcast video cameras demonstrated at NAB in April.

You wouldn't air the EPIC live, that would make no sense. But it could be used for recorded interviews, billboard shots, scenics, etc.

The EPIC was a part of the NFL Films unit, not the network's live broadcast. Completely separate operation.

That wasn't the only EPIC at the SuperBowl.. there were 3 that David knew about.

Understood, but none of them was for the live broadcast. EPIC is a great camera, but live broadcast is not its most appropriate use.

I understand live broadcast, that's what I do for a living. I've worked 3 SuperBowls as a technical director for ABC and CBS. Not everything you see on the SuperBowl broadcast is live. Like I said before, the EPIC would be great for ENG of scenics, billboard backgrounds, interviews, etc. I'll likely be working the SuperBowl next year for CBS and I'll certainly be bringing my Scarlet-X. It will also be making it's way to various sporting events I work this year including The Masters, British Open Golf, NCAA Men's College Hoops Tourney, etc. Who knows, maybe some of my footage will make it's way on-air.
