  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Maybe it is Redray timing holding it back. We want the projector so Redray doesn't need to come with it. We are looking at big numbers outside of cinema for a good product

I directly asked the question about Red Projector in the Recon forum (heading 2014 Redray released) and didn't get a reply. My guess is they haven't made a decision, or if they have, they're not saying until it's time to release it. Either way, doesn't help me right now.

Did anyone see Red Projector in their booth?

unless we get a nod of some kind, i wouldn't expect to hear anything until september.

I didn't see a projector at the booth, and they said in their theater presentation that the 4k projector they were using was a Sony.

What does that news story say Jeremy? My phone is not decoding it.

Basically that we're creating a brand new model and there's a lot of excitement -not just from the communities we're traveling to, but the broader independent industry also. They pulled clips from some of the films we're showing this weekend. Adam talks about how we plan to have more than 100 pop-up theatres within two years. That's a lot of hardware, and a lot of jobs. The b-roll shows the Barco tech we flew in do the initial calibration and set up, and take me through the menus, etc. for the projector and IMS1000 server, how to ingest, set focus, etc.

One interesting development was we quickly realized we need a genny to run the projector since it cannot run off house power. But we solved that and things have been for the most part pretty smooth.

And I have always said I would love for Red to be at the centre of our plan, which would mean Red Projector...but it appears dead.

I got to witness this last Friday.

Its a great thing what you are doing for the community.

I'm so glad I experienced it :)

Sorry Jeremy, I had lost track that it was related to your efforts. I'd luv to see it myself.

Silent fuel cell generators are an option, but fumes. But you could simply charge up a battery pack and recharge while there from mains, or latter from a fuel cell. Carry a spare in case of emergency. But the issue is temperature in some places.

I've put a poll up asking for a separate sub-forum.

Me thinks RED is either waiting for some development in their projector (outside vendor or technology) to hatch,
or projector development no longer has a place in their business model.

I do hope I am wrong, but it must be hard, if not impossible, to compete with the likes of Christie, Epson and Optima.

Sigh.

They have an awesome product in RRENCODE, and by extension RedRay. Even if someone sub-licenced the tech and then built a projector to talk to the ingest/server/playback system (capable of DCP and KDM decryption) then we'd be golden.

But it's got to be dead. They've said nothing, and that's been Jarred's policy for quite some time now...but I have directly asked the question and there was never any reply. Too bad. They could have had a winner.

Jacques, it is hard when you sit on your hands. A lot of these guys are pricy competition begging to be flattened, that gives opportunity to undercut them.

Thanks for voting guys.

What is a Redray?

OK, OK, I jest, maybe the acquisition thing is causing the delay, maybe it is because if the Redray deal. HOWEVER, delaying what nobody else can do until they can outcompete you is a cock up. "Outcompete" simply on mass market branding and distribution channels and content deals. Am I the only one that follows the historical dealings in business. I would not have delayed it or narrowed its scope down without ready hard and fast deals to get it out before the competition. Why, because without a deal you are not likely to get premium quality prints of premium content quickly, if at all. They will negotiate for a long time to get lower quality prints (meaning the quality of the encoded image). Rather, you simply go with what you can, even h264 premium content, while you wait for the negotiation on quality prints. You pickup the indie crowd too. You pickup the computer version of the decoder. You make business while waiting for the big end of town to give permission. Eventually you go to version 2 of the product, by then the big end of town might be ready. In the meantime delaying means they bleed your competitive edge, customer enthusiasm and your money and potential profit. It is unfortunate, but unless you are a chosen one, they don't need to o be enthusiastic to see a deal for you succeed.
