  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cost of 2060 these days..

If you don't need to worry about mounting an Optimo or the like, get the 1030s or 1030HDs, handles the Red awesome without the weight of the 2060

Good point Shawn. Plus with Epics around the corner...lighter weight. Does the 1030HDS have counterbalance like the 2060/2575?

Been there, done that. Don't recommend it. If you hang out long enough, you can get a used 2060 for only a little more than a 1030.

I ran out of spring on 1030 just with Red short zooms and EVF/ET bracket with mb-20 and FF.

I'm with Nate.
If it's a rental camera and not just your own use.
You never know what they'll try to throw on the camera.
And it can be a pain in the ass subrenting a 2060 all the time and seeing your 1030 sitting in the corner.

I really like my 1030HDS that I have been using with my RED for two years now. Sure a 2060 would be nice to have but with Epic around the corner like you just said Richard it doesn't seem necessary. Of course I might have a different statement if I had thrown down the money for a 2060. If you can find one for the same price as the 1030 then why not got the 2060.

Richard, give us a buzz. We have a special REDuser bundle on the 2060 as well as the 2575 and the 1030HDS.

Hi Richard,

I shopped for mine a few months back, and I got a really good deal through Abel, quite a bit less than other vendors.

me too I got my 2060 through abel. Very happy with it. But it is not for solo jobs in my opinion. you need assistant if you want to concentrate on other stuff, than carrying tripod/camera....:)

Good point. I carried my 1030HDS along with my RED fully loaded, up and down Bear Mtn for a snowboarding comp. I don't think I would have been doing that by myself with the 2060.

I got the 2060HD when I got my RED and I am not sorry for it (except when I have to portage that big boy myself). I figured I would get 1030HD later with some CF sticks and I am looking forward to having the money to do that.
2060 is rock steady and I love the stable platform. Was shooting a Polo game with a 100-400 Canon lens a few months ago and the 2060 gave me great steady images while following the action across the Polo field which is 300 yards between goals.
Wouldn't part with my 2060 but sure can see having the lighter rig available.

I'd definitely get the 2060, you'll thank yourself when you need to throw extra weight. I had a shoot not to long ago and threw on the Optimo 24-290 and it could barely hold it's own. Big deal if you gotta lug around a few extra pounds. If you're not hiking bear mountain, get the 2060.

Even with a good deal, the 2060 is about double the 1030HDs if I recall correctly
