I am selling my beautiful Cooke 20-100 zoom. This lens is magical. It has recently been serviced and collimated at Visual Products and is in perfect working order.

Price= $5,500 (or best offer)

How is this lens different than the Cooke 18-100 T3.0 Varatol?

Any noticed difference in performance?

People have been saying for years that there is a noticable difference on these boards, but a rental house has told me that when they put the two lenses up against each other (shot side by side) no one could tell the difference. So when one is rented out most folks simply take the other.

Big difference in overall quality & lens flares. I have both and the 18-100 is simply amazing.

I have used both, and both lenses are fantastic. Each has their own unique qualities. We just used the one I am selling (20-100) on a national ad and the client was over the moon with the results.

Don't get me wrong I like the 20-100 as well. I just feel the 18-100 is sharper, mechanically nicer being newer, faster, wider FOV, and the lens flares are simply astonishing. The 20-100 has its own character and beauty. But the 18-100 is the superior lens. It improved in all areas in regards to its predecessor the 20-100. The breathing on the 20-100 is very noticeable IMO and on the 18-100 it simply does not breath. Again, don't get me wrong I love a mint condition 20-100 and would shoot with one if I didn't have budget for the 18-100. But its extremely hard to find a mint 20-100 that holds focus throughout the entire range, doesn't have fungus, minor quirks that old lenses have. Just my thoughts.

Mike - your lens looks really nice by the way! The 20-100 is certainly a great lens and this one seems to be in great shape! Could be perfect for somone wanting that amazing vintage and classic Cooke look for under $12k!!!
